RUUD VAN NISTELROOY will net Manchester United £1million if Real Madrid win La Liga thanks to Alex Ferguson’s wheeler-dealing. Fergie insisted on a series of clauses when he sold striker Van Nistelrooy for £10.3m to Real last summer to guarantee United bonus pay-outs.The deal means Real must pay £500,000 if they win the title and £500,000 more if Van Nistelrooy is Spain’s top scorer. Fergie did a similar deal when he sold David Beckham to Real in 2003. The small print of Beck’s £25m switch entitles United to £1m for the star winning the league.
Now FergieÂ’s clauses are on the verge of being triggered with Real just 90 minutes away from glory. They will end a four-year barren run if they beat Real Mallorca on Sunday. Real are level on points with bitter rivals Barcelona with one game left.
Van Nistelrooy, 30, has netted 25 goals in La Liga this season and 33 in all competitions. He said: “After I left United I didn’t expect a season this good but we have all worked hard.”
