  I cant see Smith leaving.
  
  He's only played 9 league games after being out for 18 months, maybe SAF wants him to prove his worth this coming season before renewing his contract.

  I don't think it said Scholes was joining Sunderland but rather "ROY KEANE has made a shock £2million bid for Paul Scholes"
  
  It not to difficult to belief this story cos a few days earlier A Smith said he wouldn't leave and would like to stay at OT for the rest of his career and he was due a re-new to his present contract. His weekly salary is said to be $50k... Thats pretty high for a bit part player... Even the new arrival Nani & Anderson will be getting only 23k each per week...
  
  So if you think about it, Fergie may actually sell him since they are not offering him a new contract cos after the coming season, he could walk away for free in the next... Fergie would not let a player walk away for free and lose out on a transfer fee.

  I like smith for only 2 things:
  
  1) His no-nonsense-get-the-job-done tackles

  Seriously, I think if Utd wants to sell him, they better have a reliable striker that's within their site and waiting to lay a net over him..

  seriously speaking , although i like smith a lot... but whats the use if he can't score goals. this is man utd u r talking about.....

  If Smith were to join them, he'd be in a worse situation than he is currently in. At least at United, he's bound to get some games due to the relative shortage of strikers.
  
  At Newcastle, the striking department seems to be pretty well stocked at the moment. Viduka, Owen, Martins and Ameobi competing for 4 places. Owen is seemingly less fragile now, so it's most likely gonna be rotational for them next season. And where would dear old Smudger fit in then?
  
  A better option would be to go to Everton. Moyes has rather consistently kept them in the top half of the table, and a battler like Smith should fit in well there. Especially if AJ is injured or they wish to play with midfield scorers, Smith's ability to hold up play and get out of the way for Arteta or Cahill to score would be invaluable. Especially since they'restrike force too looks threadbare, and Beattie looks to be on his way out.
