About choosing which JC to go, should I just go to the nearest (Yishun JC) and try to be a big fish in a small pond or go to a school with lower COP??? :-(

Actually, every JC is a good JC.
I know of people who live in Jurong West, (get single-digit,) go to Jurong JC, and is now at NUS.
I know of people who live in Jurong West, (get around 14pts for L1R5), go to Pioneer JC (study arts stream), and is now at NTU (studying business).
I know of people who live in Jurong West, (get single-digit) go to Nanyang JC, and is now at NTU (studying business).
I know of people who live in Jurong West, go to Nanyang JC, and is now at NUS (studying medicine).
It really depends on your own ability.

Also, don't be complacent : you won't be the only big fish in that small pond. Many other students will also have the same idea as you, and many 10+ pointers will also enter into YJC and the other neighbourhood JCs to be big fishes in small ponds (although to say 6 pointers are rushing to enter MI for this purpose is a bit too much of an exaggeration).
So don't think it'll be a piece of cake to be the top 5% in YJC or any neighbourhood JC, just because your L1R5 is a few points lower than the JC's cut off point.

And yourself gekpohboy? After you graduate with your Diploma in Engineering, are you going to study Engineering in NUS or NTU? And your long term career plan? Professional Engineer? Or MOE teacher?

Sorry.

I do not know where to go.
But I advise you to carefully study all the Poly courses available based on your L1R4, to see if any appeals to you, in terms of a future career. If don't have, then either retake your O levels, or go MI.

Thanks for the advice.
But, I do not want to go MI, take Science or Arts stream, just to lower the bell curve for JC students.
I do not want to embark on a [M]ission [I]mpossible journey, and get a A level certificate that cannot go anywhere.
If I go MI, only Business stream is worth it, as all the grades are for them only, and their only competitor is the private institutions.
Any idea how to interpret the L1R2B2? How come got A, B, C, D?

Then retake your O levels lor. Not only for the purpose of getting into JC, but also for the purpose of increasing your options in Poly.

According to the JAE booklet,
L1R2B2-A is for "Humanities".
L1R2B2-B is for "Business".
L1R2B2-C is for "Engineering", "Health Sciences", "Information and Digital Technologies" and "Maritime Studies".
L1R2B2-D is for "Media and Design".
As your L1R2B2-A, C, and D are 17 points, you could consider all courses except Business.
Well, I see that you scored better in Physics (B4) than in Chemistry (C6).
Perhaps you could consider pursuing a diploma in the Engineering field.

Hey, thanks for the detailed analysis and recommendation.
I will look into Engineering courses.
I heard that Singapore Polytechnic is best for Engineering.
Do you have any SP Engineering course to recommend?

Well, DEEE (Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering) is the most popular course in SP Engineering. Since you are un-decided, you could consider this course as this course has streaming in second year, where you would be streamed into a certain specialisation (eg. Power Engineering) (refer to the course description website for more information).
Alternatively, you could consider the Common Engineering Programme, where at second year, you would be channeled to a diploma course (and continue from there). This course got less demand, but otherwise it's about the same as DEEE. Similarly, for more information, please refer to the course description page for Common Engineering Programme.

Ok. Thanks for the guidance.
Well, I think I will put DEEE as my first choice. Since it's the most popular, it's probably more recognised by NUS and NTU, than the other diplomas.
I will probably put DCPE as my second choice, since I'm interested in computer stuff, and DESM as my third choice, since I love Mother Earth; our only home.
As for the subsequent choices, I will probably choose DARE (since I like aeroplanes), DES (since I like our bus and MRT) and DEB (since I like money).

does anyone know how yjc is like? are the teachers good are the students motivated? how is the environment there? missed out on their open house. if i were to go to jc, its gonna be yjc since its near and my choices are limited with 14pts. any information about the school that i may have missed out in the open house is greatly appreciated

So yes, definitely go YJC, because distance (ie. getting more sleep) is the most prudent factor to consider. And your 14 points is just nice to safely satisfy YJC's 16 points. So your choice is clear. YJC is the best JC for you.
Can anyone tell me more about the Business Studies and Tourism & Resort Management in NP as well as Business Administration and Tourism & Resort Management in SP? (I've heard a bit when I went for their open house but I'd like to know more from other people's perspectives) It'll be good if you can talk more about the prospects of it in the future. Would it be better if I go from DTRM to studying business in Uni since it's more diverse? Thanks in advanced.
Taking olevel this yr. Any advice from graduated students?
Help please!!
My results:
English: B3
Combined Humans (SS/Geog): A2
Emath: B3
Amath: B4
Physics: B4
Chemistry: B4
Biology: B3
Chinese: A1
Higher Chinese: C5
L1R5 raw score: 16, L1R4 raw score: 12 ( CCA - A2 )
Which JC should I try for? Is SRJC possible? Even after cca & hcl bonus pts, my score would be 12, but cop for SRJC is 11.
I'm also keen in trying for NP & SP's accounting and maybe banking course, do I stand quite a high chance in getting in one of them if I put them as my 2nd & 3rd choice respectively?

Go ahead and put NP and SP's accounting and finance courses as your 1st few choices.
If you can't get into these top poly courses, then try out JC. In other words, don't put a easier-to-get-into poly course into your choices, if you're not committed to these courses and future careers. Only put the poly courses which you really want, ie. accounting and finance, and if you don't get into these, then go the JC route.

Start your O level revision early (preferrably at least 4-5 months before O levels) to avoid last-minute cramping. Also, practice your TYS books religiously as past year questions tend to repeat for future year O level papers and you will also be more familiar with the type of questions asked at the O levels. Do find your teachers for consultation and clear your doubts asap! All the best!
Originally posted by Marvel68:Help! I'm in a dilemma on weather I should put PJC or TPJC Arts stream as my first choice. I scored 13 points nett for my L1R5 which is the COP for the Arts stream for both JCs. Distance-wise, both JCs take about the same travelling time for me of about 50 minutes, (I live in the central), so I guess distance is not much of an issue. But in terms of academic reputatation and school culture, which of the 2 JCs is a better choice? Which of the 2 JCs is more competitive to enter than the other? Which JC should I put as my first choice? TIA for any adivce.
Any comments?

Thank you for reminding me, I'll try my best to not associate the COP with whether the JC is "good" or not from now onwards!

for me, i'll put PJC as my first choice. My cousin is from this JC and she said that the art stream there is not bad. The teachers are kind.
