Hello! I would like to receive some advice on where to go after my O'Levels.
My results:
EL: B4
EMath & Bio & Geography : A2
AM & Chinese : A1
Chem & Combined Humanities : B3
L1R5= 12-2=10 L1R4 = 10-2=8
I stay at Toa Payoh so i'm thinkng of taking the Science Stream at SRJC and CJC. However, my english is just a B4, so i'm afraid it will affect my gp. I'm also considering pharmaceutical science and accountancy at NP.
Thank You for reading this!
I want to ask, if i am a 16 y/o N level graduate currently in ITE now (i started on Jan 9 this year) is it possible to go back to sec 5 to take my O levels WITHOUT being a private candidate? I really don't like it here and my N aggregate was 11 and i don't think ITE is worth my grades ( i got tricked into the DPP programme i thought i'd def be guaranteed a position in poly). My N level results:
EL - 1
Maths - 2
Science (phys/chem) - 2
Combined humanities (SS/HIST) - 1
MT - 5
(i dont have a 6th subject because i dropped art already)
My current worry now is that i'll fail chinese really badly i've already forgotten what i've learnt and it would affect my Os. I plan to finish my O levels and be eligible for Poly and take the electronics/electrical engineering course.

Contact your secondary school teachers, or write email to your secondary school principal. Ask them if you still can come back.
Originally posted by qixx:I heard A is 20, B is 17.5 , C is 15 and so on. If I want to get into that uni course, other than the grades, would the points be considered as well? Cause the required grades for GP and PW are not stated. So, if i score the minimum grade and C for both GP and PW, is there a high chance I can get in?
Oh and also, for the MT scores in JC1 right, are they considered in the uni courses as well?
There's a good chance, yes. That's why it's called IGP (Indicative Grade Profile). But bear in mind that like the JCs' cut-off score, even if you score the same grades and UAS as the stated IGP, you may not get in. So it's important to score *better* than the stated IGP. In addition, as with JCs' cut-off scores, the IGPs given are for the previous year, and with greater demand (including competition from foreigner students) comes more demanding IGPs or cut-off scores.
As for your question about MT, read this :

Go ahead and apply for both your desired Poly courses, as well as SRJC and CJC (prioritize whichever is nearer to your home). Then, while waiting for acceptance, think over carefully which route you really want, in the event you're accepted by both (for JC route, add in a couple of JCs whose cut-off is a couple of points worse than your L1R5, as a safety net).
For Poly route, it's important to only apply for courses that you would seriously consider accepting, and not apply for some easy to get into course for the sake of applying (or you may regret it if you really get it).
Should I take h2 econs or h2 bio? I'm pretty sure I will do better in econs but I'm also pretty sure that bio is more essential .

Nonetheless, for the sake of other students reading this thread, here's my reply again :
Take H2 Bio. Because H2 Sciences are more valuable than H2 Arts / Humanities subjects, in terms of courses that you can apply for in the Uni.
You don't even need Econs at A levels (whether H1 or H2) to study Econs in the Uni. But you do need H2 Chem for all Science courses and H2 Physics for all Engineering courses. H2 Bio is necessary for Pharmacy.
For Medicine (NUS & NTU), you'll need H2 Chem + H2 Bio, or H2 Chem + H2 Physics.
Originally posted by UltimaOnline:Apart from the conditional JC/Poly admissions involving O level English, the point of retaking O levels is to improve on all your scores, thereby giving you more options (both JC and Poly) upon scoring better results on the retake.
Of course, just the act of retaking O levels is by itself no guarantee that your results will improve, it's up to your own determination and perseverance. If you don't have the determination and perseverance to ensure that your results will improve across all subjects, then don't bother retaking.
Poly dont have conditional admission :( i now very confuse if i should just retake or retake and study a poly course this year? but i do not want to waste my parents money as my family is not super rich. Do give me advice !!
Can anyone tell me more about the Business Studies and Tourism & Resort Management in NP as well as Business Administration and Tourism & Resort Management in SP? (I've heard a bit when I went for their open house but I'd like to know more from other people's perspectives) It'll be good if you can talk more about the prospects of it in the future. Would it be better if I go from DTRM to studying business in Uni since it's more diverse? Thanks in advanced.

If you're not confident, better focus on doing well on your O levels retake alone.
Originally posted by UltimaOnline:You've no chance for SAJC and TJC, because cut-off points have to be strictly enforced, non-DSA appeals are useless.
Soo it means missing the COP by even one point means can't make it? Or is it still worth a shot :0 and how are non-cca appeals like?

If it's indeed this year's COP, it means you got no chance at all (because even if you zhun zhun on the COP, you only got 50% chance of getting in). But no real harm putting in, just that you waste that 1st (or 1st few) slot(s). So if you want to hope this year's COP is 1 point worse than last year's, go ahead and try.
Woah I didn't think about that, thank you again!
Hi, can someone tell me more about taking Law/Medicine/Pharmacy in NUS via JC route and the chances of it entering them?
Is it very difficult to score AAA/A in A levels like what others said?

As for H1 Geog vs H1 Econs, depends on personal interest (check out the detailed H1 syllabi for both subjects on SEAB's website) and which is more useful for your intended future Uni studies and career. If both irrelevant to future Uni studies and career, then see which you've more interest in, because your interest will determine how well you perform (applies to academia as well *heh*).

Hi yenyen,
I am in the same shoes as you last year ,D7 for english, unable to go the course that i desired .Private candidate for Os and polytechnic course simultaneously seems really hard but in actual fact ,it can be manageable if you have the willpower and could resist the temptations present in polytechnic.Otherwise, you should try to retake O level for english to meet the criteria of your desired course .Good luck and jiayou for getting the course you want next year!
Thanks again.
I think I would go to yjc because it's nearer to my house and I don't want to lose sleep.(What time does JC usually end again?)
Also,is CCA record in JC a significant factor in determining your admission to Uni? I plan to enter a very slack CCA so that I would have ample time to focus on my studies. Is this thinking bad? I would definitely attend every session for the sake of attendance but I would not want to put too much time on it(Like training for competitions..etc).
Would there be a bridging programme for combined science students?(Does it include the practical part of the pure sciences?)
Is PW supposed to be done in school only? We can't meet with our group members outside to work on it?
So the subject prerequisites for Computer Engineering are:H2 pass in Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry.
Let's say Student A took H2 Math and Physics(AA) while Student B took H2 Math,Physics AND Chemistry(AAA).
Does it makes sense to say that Student B have a higher chance of getting into that course?
Even though Student A fully fulfilled the subject prerequisites,Student B fulfilled it too and he also fulfilled the 'bonus' part of the prerequisite.(Since it's Physics OR Chemistry).Student B took both Physics and Chemistry.

CCA is a bonus, and can contribute to your CV, and hence is more relevant and important for elite Uni courses, ie. Medicine & Law, and less relevant and important for normal Uni courses.
No need for bridging programme for combined science students lah. Combined science, pure science, both equally super easy, compared to H2 Science.
PW is done both in school and outside school.
For your student A student B question, once you fulfil your subject prerequisites, then it's about the UAS. If student A has a better UAS than student B, then he'll still have a better chance of getting in. Unless it's an elite course, ie. Medicine & Law, then grades for specific relevant subjects will be considered in addition to UAS. But if it's an elite course, ie. Medicine & Law, then ALL your subjects need to be A grade anyway, just to stand a 20% chance of getting in.
Hi, if i choose to enter pharmacy science and then take Medicine in NUS / NTU, what are the chances of getting in? I've checked the gpa for medicine in nus, it's 3.92 for the 10th percentile. And what would happen if i do too badly for As if i choose to go JC? Like can i still enter Poly?

Chance of entering Medicine from Poly course (even BioMed or Pharmacy) is very low (1%). Highest chance (20%) is still by getting AAA/A grades in JC.
The only other possible pathway to Medicine in Singapore (but chance is still very low, because Medicine is always many times oversubscribed, especially in Singapore), is post-grad Duke-NUS Medical school, ie. get a good degree from a good Uni first, then apply to Duke-NUS after you graduate.

english - D7
Math-A2
combined science - B3
Chinese-A1
Amath-C5
combined humanities - C6
POA-B3
ELR2B2-A - 19 (havent minus 2 marks)
Do give me some advice ! I dk if i should just choose another poly courses or retake english (wait for 1 year) then go chinese studies :(
Singapore Polytechnic accepts students who scored D7 for English.
Nanyang Polytechnic also.
Temasek Polytechnic also.
Republic Polytechnic also.
Only Ngee Ann don't allow.
Anyway, why you want to go Ngee Ann? I know Ngee Ann very fun la, but it's damn hell inaccessible. Everyday have to squeeze bus with people from SIM, and walk long distances.
Come Singapore Polytechnic.
SP got me.
And, it's just next to Dover MRT Station.
SP + yenyen10, ok?
And, why must it be chinese studies?
I see your Maths and POA very good.
Why not consider Business courses?

Just enquiring, is it very hard to get a degree for math in Singapore? Am i able to achieve that if I'm taking a combi of H2 econs math phys and H1 chem? Moreover, NIE would recognize such degrees right?
