Carbon nanotube is an allotrope of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure. The cylindrical carbon molecules have novel properties that make them potentially useful in many applications in nanotechnology and electronics. Carbon nanotubes are made from Buckminsterfullerene.
Which of the following properties is expected of the nanotube?
1 All carbon atoms lie at same plane.
2 It contains delocalized electrons.
3 It can conduct electricity.
2 and 3 are correct...1 is correct also because all carbon atoms seem to have co-planar?
Ohh yes.. that is true.. but it seems that all the carbon in the hexagonal rings lie on the same plane.
I think in graphite having a leyered-strutcure all carbon atom in the hexagonal rings lie at the same plane (of a single layer)

Now it is clear.
What about Carbon atoms in hexagonal rings in graphite in each layer...they are co-planar.
