Do you have a link to an MOE or SEAB statement that " it is not possible to take o levels as a private candidate since the government doesnt allow it"?
MOE-SEAB's webpage for O level private candidates in 2017 :

Hi,
first, would appreciate if you could use some paragraphs for your question. It's rather hard to decipher what you were writing (it's called a wall of text). This will be good training for your GP essays in JC :)
second, I would suggest you try contacting the JCs that you are interested in and ask them your questions. Different JCs might have different policies, and might also change every year. You never know.
u have to show them your more than exemplary results in ur current sch and other relevant achievements
or maybe take the entrance test (if they have)

yup i think u can sign up for the priv o levels, but moe would reject ur application. my cousin signed up & he was in ip but his application to take priv os was rejected. ive asked my school teachers as well and they said its not possible to take priv os if u are in ip!
Ultimaonline's idea is risky. You need to think twice. You still need the school certs and leaving cert.
Hi all,
I am REALLY in need of advise here so pls help if you can! (PS i'm new here so kindly lead me to the correct place to post if not here.)
In a nutshell, I am a private candidate taking BCM/E combi. Aiming for the 2017 'A' levels, intending to read Medicine in local uni (so yes prepared to grind, in a smart way though i hope!:D)
Here's the thing: I'm a private candidate, so I dont have any 'notes' like other JC students. Can anyone advice on what books I should get for all of BCM/E that can replace JC notes? Otherwise, I am intending to get notes from a friend who took his As in 2013 or 2014. But I am concerned if there's any change/addition to any subject's syllabus that may be missing in his notes?

So in summary how do you do it?

For Maths and Physics, there are changes in syllabus, starting in 2017 A Level papers.
More changes for Maths than in Physics (primarily reduction in content in my opinion).

Hi Eagle, thank goodness you told me!! For H2 Maths, when did the reduction of topics take place? and what topics has been taken out?
(Because I just bought the Marshall Cavendish 'a Comprehensive Guide to H2 Mathematics', 2nd Edition for both volume 1 and 2, to be used as my math 'notes'/textbook. It says Second edition 2011, Reprinted 2013 and 2014. Would this be a book that reflects the reduced topics??)
Many many thanks!!
I noticed that you are taking the exams as a private candidate. If you take the previous syllabus exam (I think you have the option to do it?), then no changes.
Some of the changes, off hand as I remember,
(i) removal of intersection between 3 planes
(ii) removal of complex numbers loci
(iii) removal of poisson distribution (shifted to F Maths)
(iv) removal of Sampling theory
There are some additions as well. To be more comprehensive, need to check out seab website.
I did not get up to sec 5 as my results did not allow me to, so i went to ITE instead.
To cut short, how much roughly is the subjects i got to take up?
I'm getting English, Chinese, E maths, Pure physics (because my chemistry sucks so I'm not getting combined sci), and geography.
I want to go to Polytechnic, and also because private diplomas are way too expensive.
And, does pure physics have practical exams? because I'm not going to learn from private school, so i don't know if it is possible for me to do that practical exam.
Thanks in advance!!!
For Pure Physics from 2017 onwards, there will be practicals. No more SPA as continual assessment component.
You could register for the exams as a private candidate, and have the practical exam as part of the year end O Level.
hey! im also a student from one of the three schools going up to eunoia. i was thinking if you can update this post if you manage to transfer or not? i wanted to take o level, but was unsure about the stress of taking national exams. thanks!

Are you in Year 3 or 4 this year? And at this stage, you still haven't decided whether you want to transfer out to take O levels, or continue IP all the way to Eunoia JC?

even more stressful when u only have As to depend on
and, >touch wood<, if u did not do well, the highest qualification u have is......... PSLE?!
As eunoia jc is a new sch hmm why not jus give it a chance and continue studying? save u lots of trouble

precisely?!
new. no track record.
students come from 3 different school. using different syllabus and style of teaching.
so some students/parents may feel it's a risk
and somemore the temp campus located so far away (far far away from what they told them 5 years ago when they wanna attract the students)
oh i see! JAE exercise period is approximately when? I am also thinking of emailing the JC i'm interested in to ask about this.
