BEIJING (AP) -- China's foreign minister said Saturday he hopes Beijing's relations with the U.S. would not be "interfered with or damaged" after President-elect Donald Trump broke with decadeslong diplomatic tradition and spoke directly with Taiwan's leader.
It is highly unusual, probably unprecedented, for a U.S. president or president-elect to speak directly with a leader of Taiwan, a self-governing island the U.S. broke diplomatic ties with in 1979.
Trump tweeted later: "The President of Taiwan CALLED ME today to wish me congratulations on winning the Presidency. Thank you!"

SINGAPORE - A man allegedly punched and dented more than 10 cars and kicked down four motorcycles in an open-air carpark before leaving.
The incident occurred at about 9am on Saturday (Dec 3) at Block 139, Serangoon North Avenue 2, Shin Min Daily News reported.
An eyewitness told Shin Min that he heard noises from the carpark and saw a bespectacled man in a red shirt pounding on the hood of cars with his bare fists.
Eyewitnesses said his fists seemed to be bleeding after punching the cars.

Of course, Trump doesn't care about victims of genocide, human rights abuses, or small nations being invaded, as long as his own wealth (and to a lesser extent, America's) isn't affected. Naturally, Trump wants to buddy up with Vladimir Putin, Xi JinPing, Duterte and Kim Jong Un, as more buddies means more personal success and wealth. That's all that Trump cares for. And ironically, perhaps being selfish this way may actually help to avert some major crises between the major superpowers for the world (which could trigger WW3 and then everyone would suffer far worse), even as the little guys continue to suffer a little in the sidelines (thing is, under Obama and/or Clinton, even if USA makes a lot of noise, it's just noise that only angers and doesn't actually stop the wongdoings, and the little guys would continue to suffer anyway under Vladimir Putin, Xi JinPing, Duterte and Kim Jong Un). So perhaps Trump's screwed up way works, showing you how a screwed up world needs a screwed up approach.

Such is the distrustful, suspicious nature of international politics. In truth, they give Trump far too much credit for cunning. Trump is actually exceedingly simple minded, and he doesn't give a damn about diplomatic protocols.
He accepted that call simply because he wanted to feel good being congratulated by a president of another country, simply because he wants to buddy up (chit-chat, praise them, bro-hug them) with as many presidents and prime ministers as possible (in business, better to have more networking contacts), and simply because he wants to expand his/USA's businesses and maximize his/USA's profits, via business deals with as many countries as possible, including selling billions of dollars of military hardware to Taiwan.
