Hi. I'm currently having a raw L1R5 of 17. Well after minus cca bonus points = 15. So I am currently considering YJC or IJC. JJC is abit too far so it isnt in my list right now.
Any suggestions whether should I choose YJC or IJC? Plus I have a weird subject combination in my O'Level as I have physics and biology pure but I think there isnt such a combination for A'Level from what I know so far.

Innova JC has very exciting programmes. I do not know about Yishun JC.

YJC has a very flexible subj combi, go on to their websote to check it out.
Hi, I am a O levels student that got my results and I scored well in my art and chinese. I got two A1s in that two subj but my other results are not good enough to go to a JC. I then think i am going to take on a poly course. I only have courses like design and psychology but i want to get into NUS law school. Can you all give me some suggestions on what courses to take to get into a law school? Thank you very much

Yes. SP Engineering courses prepares us for the work, the world and the future.
Recently, at the lecturers' level, the lecturers were told to work on their competency. Already, MST/Exams must not have so much repeated questions; must have new questions. The modules are becoming more difficult.
The lecturers are on alert for any update. Previously, it was the change of colour code. Soon, some ISO standards will be updated/Introduced.
The students are equipped with the latest knowledge and the relevant skills for work. Hence, if they come out to work upon graduation, they have an edge over other new workers in the industry.
However, the negative aspect is that it is becoming more hard for SP Engineering students to get high GPA. Previously, there is already this ATS nonsense. Then, it is MST/Exam have to set new questions. Soon, it is about raising competency. It is only going to become harder and harder.
This is why just now I wrote a post to advise my juniors to opt for polys that are average, instead of polys that are well-known. I admire my friends at NP, NYP and RP. TP I heard their engineering is about the same as SP Engineering. The people at NP, NYP and RP who study engineering have a easier life. I guess it is easier for them to get high GPA.
What to do? This is life. Life is not fair. :(
Actually, I was wondering, if students really want to work immediately after graduating from Engineering course in Poly, why not straightaway from O level go to the technical schools to attend technical courses, to become LEW (Licensed Electric Worker)?
Anyway, after one graduates from Poly with engineering diploma, he still cannot be electrician yet, until he gets the LEW certification (which takes around/at-least two to three years). So why not straightaway go study and train to become LEW, if they really want to work immediately after graduating from Poly Engineering course?

What subject combination are you considering of?
I'm a student from YJC. You might consider reading a lengthy post about YJC on the 3rd page of this topic.
Thanks for the replies. Hi Mkwedoe, subject combi wise Im considering h2 math, bio/phy, econs and for h1 bio/phy?
Whether h2 physics or bio, im not really sure yet...

Look at the admission criteria of the University courses that you want to study. From there, decide on what subjects to take.

He is fairly int in srjc but he miss the cutoff point by one mark. is it still adviceable then to put srjc as first choice ? He is currently also looking at some poly courses with cop ard 8/9 and his R4 after minusing is 9. does this mean the chances of him going to those courses are harder cuz he is like on the dot . pls anyone help!!!! it will be greatly appreciated
Put tpjc better higher chance if u feel unsafe but u can try.

Anw I want to go to Uni in the end to get a degree, and I was all out at first to go to poly but however I realised only 20% of students who get admitted to Uni are poly students, and you have to do exceptionally well. So I wanted to go for the science stream in JC. My Cop is 12 points, minus bonus 2 points from cca, 10. However the problem I have is that I did not take A Maths and this is really affecting my decision making as most JC require you to take H2 Maths if you want to go to the science stream. I really want to go thru the science stream but I am really confused as of now. Thanks for reading my post and do try to help me
Not much choices here bro. I would suggest u to go poly as your subject combi is severely limited. For schls like srjc or mjc if u dont meet their criteria they will put u to art stream instead of science (unofficially).

POA: B3
Combined Humanities (SS,Geog): A2
Raw R4:8, R5 11
I got a CCA grade of B4 so my net R4 and R5 is 7 and 10 respectively. I am currently looking at international business and tourism&resort management for my poly courses and i am currently thinking of entering CJC or SRJC science stream. Does anybody have any advice in general? or can somebody tell me if it's wiser to take H2 physics or H2 chemistry. Thanks!
Poly since you only can take combine science. Many jc dont allow you to take h2 sciences unless u go those lower end jcs such as tpjc/pioneer/yishun.... sry to be harsh. Also it is difficult to cope. Guys just a tip, if u all nvr take Amath or pure sciences and insist to go JC(sci), go those lower end jcs cause they are more lenient and have bridging programs. Unless u want to take the risk(beware risk is very high, no joke)....

Yes YJC is actually a schl that is constantly improving over the years...(if my sources are reliable),producing many students that aced their Alevels.

YJC offers H2 Biology if it is taken with H2/H1 Chemistry. You might want to try looking thorugh TYS questions, reading the syllabus guidelines on the SEAB website and borrow notes/ask from seniors who take Biology/Physics
My brother took biology and i take physics. Biology is very content heavy (a huge step up from O level biology), with the bulk of the syllabus focusing on genetics, very little (or none) on human anatomy. If you are into genetics, choose bio.
Physics syllabus from O to A level is largely similar, with the inclusion of many further topics such as superposition and nuclear physics. Physics in the A level requires you to understand concepts, and memorising physics formulae wont get you far in H2 physics.
i'd rather you choose physics > biology. H2 physics opens the door to many more courses (eg. engineering) in university than biology.
I went through the IJC website and they offer Biology, math and econs together at H2 Level. If you have already decided on this combination, choose IJC.

Hi, can someone provide some advice on the prospects of going to JC (arts/science ) vs Poly ? I've been trying to research on the various university courses but the universities' websites are confusing me . It would be great if someone could share a link that shows the pre requisites of the different degrees in local universities so that I can have a easier time making my 12 choices . Also , I'm leaning more towards the science stream in JC but my A maths has been very weak since sec 3 , so should i still take H2 math or even enter the science stream at all?

Without Amath you will have a hard time doing H2math. I am not kidding. There are topics such as trigonometry (not the one u learn in emath but a more advanced version), logarithm, modulus and calculus which they assume that you already learned it in Amath. I rather you enter Poly (if you are into sci) where you choose the more general engineering courses or you go to jc art stream. If you insist on going to jc (sci), I advise you to choose jcs such as Yishun Jc or Innova as they are more lenient in their criterias for taking H2 Maths (although I dont recommend that)
H1 Math = O level Additional Mathematics.
If you want to take H2 science subjects, the usual requirement at JCs is that your combined science must get A1, or your pure sciences must at least get C6.
I believe the subject requirements at the JCs are there to make sure that only those that can do well in the subject would take that subject.
Look at your grades. I am sure the JCs have subject requirements for most subjects. If your grades can make it, and you are interested, then take lor.
Do not worry about the prospects of the subject combinations at the JCs. If a subject combination is offered, this means there are courses in the University which require this subject combination. Otherwise, the JC would not offer it.
I did take Amath in secondary school but struggled really hard and miraculously got a B3 for o levels , is that fine ? Anyway I have no interest in any poly courses which is why im leaning towards going to JC. Also , PJC ( which is a 10min walk) away from my house , has a COP of 14 for science last year. my net L1R5 is 6 , which should safely guarantee me a spot inside . Also , the PJC website states that the pre requisites for a science student to take H2 maths is to have a pass in both E and A maths
Then go PJC since distance is also very impt. Pjc is also improving a lot. The COP reduce from 15 to 13 i think..... and they have many school awards as well.
Im worried about the prospects because while I am interested in mugging / learning about science subjects ( i.e physics and chemistry ) , I am not sure if there will be a certain area of study i would want to major in during university if i were to take the JC path now
And yes, I scored A1 for my combined science as well as a b3 for amath so i am not afraid of not getting into the subject combination i want

Would like to add that H1 Physics questions are typically more in depth and tougher than H2 Physics questions at the A Level itself.
The only reason why one may find it easier to score is that the bell curve will be more in your favour. But that only applies if you are able to do the more in depth and tougher questions well.
hi are there any Jurong Jc students here? I was thinking of going to JJC but after visiting like PJC where students are much more enthu and lively , i realise JJC atmosphere is very quiet. Isit normal?
Originally posted by Jewed:hi are there any Jurong Jc students here? I was thinking of going to JJC but after visiting like PJC where students are much more enthu and lively , i realise JJC atmosphere is very quiet. Isit normal?
From the looks of it, both JCs offer the same subjects, except PJC offers "rare" subjects like computer programming.
Well, my advise is to choose the JC that is the nearest to your house, if you are eligible for both JCs.
You may want to use maps.google.com directions service to see which JC is more accessible (eg. more bus routes going there) and/or nearer (ie. shorter travel time) to your house.
I feel that it is better to go to a school that is nearer to your house, so that you have more time to study.
Nonetheless, I know of people who stay in Jurong West (at Pioneer) and went to Nanyang JC (at Lorong Chuan). He is now at NUS.
I guess long travel distance is not a problem if you know how to use your time wisely.
Of course, I also know of people who stay in Jurong West, went to JJC and is now at NUS...

I was from JJC and made it to Nus :)
Yes Jjc is quiet, compared to the lively atmosphere in Pjc.That's what made me chose Pj over Jj.Too bad,got rejected.
Jj is stagnating compared to Pj,just look at the annual cut-off each year. Pj was on par with Jj the year before I entered(2013),now it is 2 points ahead. Not only,is it better academically but also atmosphere.
If you want to have a better shot in uni, choose pjc. Jjc is also notoriously poor with Gp.There are numerous failures for Gp in Jj.
Likewise, don't expect a miracle for A levels if you fare badly in prelims, because the standards of the paper are roughly scaled to A levels, not harder.
To add on,the top 55% can qualify for local uni,(smu, nus, ntu) but that's for my year.
Of the 55%,you can expect the next 20% to be eligible for courses that they have no control over.(nursing, engineering, maths in ntu)
Hello guys have gotten back my o level results and my l1r4 is 17 points raw.And if i want to go to the course i want which i failed to do so where its cut off point is 14.Do i still have a chance?
