so i got posted to jurong jc science and now is choosing the subject combi.
im thinking of H2 Chem, maths econs and either H1 physics/lit/history
my friends say that is not a good combi for uni ( they choosing the usual PCME)
cause i want to enter the Information Security course in NUS and the requirement is H2 pass in computing OR maths OR physics and my friends say those who took PCME have a better chance. isit true?
i took triple pure science in sec and i almost died cause i really didnt like and didnt understand. Chem and History were my favourite subject. but for Os i got
History A1, Chem A2, bio C5 and physics B4
Totally didnt expect to pass physics.
and is H2 econs useful? cause i saw the prerequsite for NUS and i didnt really see econs.
Jjc physics department is pretty bad,but has a solid econs department(highest h2 distinction rate than any other subject),if you want to know more about jjc, drop me a message.

may or may not have interview
depending on the course requirements and how relevant your "achievements" are
there shd be at least a few questions they'll ask like "why u want to choose this course"
Students who took their O levels last year produced the best results in decades.
So, it would have been reasonable to expect the entry requirements of polytechnic courses to have been raised accordingly.
However, the bar to between 16 per cent and 33 per cent of the courses offered at the various polytechnics this year was, in fact, lower than last year. These courses are in areas such as design, early childhood and management.
To qualify for a polytechnic, a student's total score for English and four other subjects must not exceed 26. The lower the score, the better the student's chance of getting a place in a polytechnic and the course of his choice.
For some courses this year, however, the entry-point score or cut-off was increased by one to three points.
A reason for the lower entry bar for certain courses, said education experts, may be the smaller size of last year's O-level cohort.
The Education Ministry said late last month that entry scores - based on the last students posted to courses - may fluctuate from year to year "depending on factors such as student interest, performance of the cohort and cohort size".
Dr Timothy Chan, director of SIM Global Education's academic division, said this could lead to lower demand for places in some courses.
A total of 29,723 students took the O-level examination last year, compared with 30,964 in 2014.
Nevertheless, Dr Chan observed, some courses, such as international business, still maintain very low cut-off points as their intake sizes are kept small.
Only between 14 per cent and 30 per cent of courses in areas such as cyber security, information technology and applied sciences had higher entry requirements this year, down from 50 per cent to 70 per cent the previous year.
This is despite last year's cohort outperforming their seniors.
Of the students who took the national exam, 83.8 per cent attained at least five passes, surpassing the 83.3 per cent mark set by the 2014 cohort, which was the first to breach the 83 per cent mark.
The Education Ministry said late last month that entry scores - based on the last students posted to courses - may fluctuate from year to year "depending on factors such as student interest, performance of the cohort and cohort size".
This year, about 27,600 students were posted to a post-secondary institution. Of these, 56 per cent went to polytechnics, compared with 58 per cent last year.
Student Nurul Syafiqah Ya'cob, 17, secured a place in Republic Polytechnic's biomedical sciences diploma programme. Its entry requirement this year was 14 points, a point lower than last year.
"Even though the junior colleges offer subjects like biology and chemistry, there are other subjects I have to take. But I would like to focus only on biomedical sciences," she said. "I am more of a hands-on person, and I think the polytechnic route suits me better."
Hello , im posting this for a friend of mine. Her ELR2B2 is 16 points. Maths is a D7 and english is B3. Her jae, jpsae and appeal was unsuccessful. As of now.. no poly wants to take her in , what can she do? she is interested in chinese new media and comm ( NP ) as she wants to become a translator in the future. please advice her on what to do , thank you :D
She can try to apply via DAE, but I think most of the schools DAE application periods are over. You can try to go to the poly websites to check.

Hey juz checking any poly students got their enrollment packages??
How do students get 6 points actually? Since I'm taking O level next year I still have a lot of time to revise so was looking for some advice. Looking for serious advice only. I plan to go Hwa Chong but I join CCA in Sec 3 ( Returning Singaporean ) only so I think bonus 2 points may not be possible already wo :(.
all subjects A1
(actually, only need 6 subjects)
L1R5 = 6 points
很难?
CCA got bonus
HMT got bonus
last time go affiliated JC can get bonus also, not sure now still the case or not
Dude i know how 6 A1's equal to 6 points in L1R5 i'm not a 三å²å°å©. I'm just asking how do people study so well that they can get A1 for their subjects. Well for my case i think i wont be getting two bonus points sadly since i join a CCA only in Sec 3. Haizz so sad.
don't rely on the cca bonus
concentrate on studies bcos raw score still rules
Not really wo. I think they have some importance as they lower your score imagine from 6 points to 4 points through CCA. Enough to go Hwa Chong. :) Lol just wishful thinking on my part.
see. there are ppl who can score all A1 and commit a lot to their CCAs
but there are also those who cant
this is life
.
Hello, new user here, sorry if I posted in the worng place DX
Will be taking O-levels this year, and I am planning to get a Game Design & Development Diploma in a poly. Deciding between NYP & TP. Would like to do more programming than designing.
I heard that NYP has good IT school, but also heard that TP is also quite good. TP is also closer to my home in the east. Can score As for Maths and Science, so should be no problem in enrolling.
Anyone have experience in this course in these polys? Or can point me to a place where I can get opinions? Most important part is that I want to programme games, but knowing some design to help back it up, and that I understand that it is different from just playing.
Thank you
TP stronger in design
