Alright here we go. i took my n levels when i was sec 4 and i failed badly because i didn't like to study during secondary school and would skip school often thus resulting in me ending up in ITE. once i entered ITE i felt that i couldn't make any friends and so after 6 months there i dropped out with plans of taking O levels as a private candidate(my N level results were not eligible to go to sec 5). my plan was to score well for o levels and pursue a diploma in psychology studies in ngee ann poly but i was still lazy and complacent and i only started putting in effort around august but it was a tad too late. The O level results are coming out around january 2016 and i know for sure i will do very badly except for english which has always been my strongest subject. As for the year 2016 i intend to retake o levels as a private candidate again but this time i will give it my all. My concern is that i will be turning 19 in 2016 and if i was eligible to enter into a jc i would be 20 in 2017 (i'm afriad once i enter jc it would be difficult to make friends due to the age disparity). BTW my subject combination for L1R5 would be english, chinese,E math, combined science, combined humanities and literature. i know if i put in the effort i would be able to enter into jcs like PJC,JJC,YJC and IJC.. i know these jcs are just average jcs but at least i will be able to do my A levels in a government school with supervision. Taking private A levels as a private candidate is not an option as my family definitely do not have the funds. My dream is to become an english teacher and my planned route is retake o levels(19 years old)>jc(20-21 years old)>NS(22-23 years old)>NUS/NTU.. i would apprieciate any and all advice given.
Can you go to call the MOE hotline and ask whether they have age limits for entering a JC? I read before in this forum that there seems to be a age limit.
Go to www.moe.gov.sg and find out the hotline number.
All the best.
You really need to buck up and change your attitude. Time waits for no man.
Every school is a good school.
Every JC is a good JC.
Or maybe... every JC becomes an average JC.

If I am not wrong, it is four years.
The age range for year one is 17 - 21.

Whereas for NS, I thought if secondary school is four years, after 19 years old cannot defer anymore?
Why not appeal to go back to ITE to continue the course? Study hard. At least have ITE certificate.
ITE certificate meets ISO standards and it is internationally recognised. Can find a descent job and make a good living.
I want to be an english teacher and gping back to ite is definitely out of the question. My birthday falls on 27th November so on the year when I enter jc i'll still be 19 until said date.
Making friends should be the last of your concerns. Go for it!
definitely go to a jc, you can make friends during pw in year 1!! and if you're sure you can make it into a jc you should start reading/studying ahead a little now so that you won't enter jc with a blank mind

Remember seeing this somewhere that you cannot lose more than two marks for spa for distinction to be attainable. Is this in total for the two SPAs or for one? (4/40 or 2/40) Tempted to choose to retain because messed up my first spa in year one and i want to redo the component. I lost two marks out of twenty. Scared next yr i will do worse. Do you know?

Even if you do badly in your SPA, you can always make up for it with your theory papers, as grades (including A) are awarded based on your total score (ie. SPA + P1 + P2 + P3). Of course, the worse you do for your SPA, the more perfect your theory papers need to be. And there's always the bell-curve to contend with.
How bad is bad? Is two marks lost for each SPA reasonable? So 4/40 x 15% lost for overall grade? Will it be hard to catch up for the theory paper or is the gap really too big? Coming from someone who is around the ten percentile for a school where 60% gets a distinction.

Anything is possible. You just gotta do your best. That's all you can do. And come for tuition if you're worried about your theory papers.
Do you know how many marks per spa do people usually lose though, due to various reasons?
