Hi everyone this may sound rushed and a little too late but I hope to get all the help I can. My Chinese O Levels Paper 1 ( Compo ) and Paper 2 falls on 2nd June , which is 2 days from now . I have never been interested nor working hard for this subject since Secondary 1 , and have only started to worry since 2 weeks ago . I need advice on how to ensure that I will be able to do well ( A2 / A1 ) for my paper . Help on the formats of the different kind of letter writing and essay types , as well as tips for Paper 2 comprehension will be greatly appreciated . What is the bellcurve for the May/June Chinese paper like ? How many % to get A1/ A2?
Also , please advice on whether Chinese will be important in deciding my future routes ( i.e JC or Poly ) . Currently I hope to go to a JC and my Prelim 1 results are as follows
English B3
Chinese B3
E Maths A2
A Maths B4
Combined Science ( Phy/Chem ) A1
Combined Humanities ( SS / Hist ) C5
Geography A2
L1R5 15 L1R4 11
My language grades have always been consistently B3/B4. E Maths have always been A1/A2 . A Maths was a big improvement from F9/E8 last year to B4 now . Science has always been my best subject at A1 , Combined Humanities is really dependent on the SBQ and if i have studied sufficiently , used to always get A1/A2 in Sec 3. Geography , most of the time is A1/A2 .
So, with results like this , assuming that i screw up Chinese as i have a weak foundation , will i be able to make it to a good JC such as Anderson or Meridian ? ( i am not expecting to enter elite JCs )

i can only say, good luck.
paper 1 and 2 got another chance at the end of the year
dun screw up oral and LC
I dont wish to retake Chinese at the end of the year . If i do, I will be competing with Sec3 HMT people who are far more inclined in the subject . Thus , i may even end up with a worse grade if i retake.
so u got ur ans
hmm but i still need to know about the format , answering techniques , bellcurve etc ..
u mean ur sch chinese teacher no teach all these??
or u no listen
50% no listen 50% dont understand what she talking about
looking at the results abv (if it's a true indication), chinese is not the one u need to worry abt
yeah but still i want to try and achieve the best possible grade for chinese , just in case i screw up any other subjects , so i can have a backup. thats why im here for any possible last minute help
still no formats being discussed ... and as for the bellcurve image at the back is it just a general example or specifically for chinese Os? im confused
email and compo formats
Based on what i know from my brother, i dont think it will affect, as long as you make a pass. I do know that if one fails Higher Chinese, he will have to take H1 Chinese Language in Junior College. Sadly, i got only a B3 for Higher Chinese though i studies shit hard for it. Try to memorise the essay format, and memo generalised statements which can be used for almost all essays, (most of them are politically correct!). GOOD LUCK, anyways i am offering tution for English if you are interested. Oh yeah, if you have any friends whom are weak in English, can ask them come to me for tuition. I am 17 this year, from Dunman High School, getting As for English/Language Arts from Year 4, after coming up with my own techniques.
the threadstarter is not toking abt higher chinese
Jonathan has answered my question on whether screwing up chinese will affect my future routes , but the issue on the different types of essays and formats still remain as a question
Did you Try to ask your friends for the compo formats? What to write first, then what to write next?
Last time i compo write æŠ¥å¼ æŠ¥é“,first paragraph write summary, then write 3 paragraph agree, 3 paragraph disagree, then another paragraph on conclusion.
As for the email one maybe u can draw the format in your dictionary then copy.
My o level year n ur one different, i can only advise go see the compo u wrote before and see where the teacher point out ur mistake, then copy inside dictionary.
Bell curve wise need wait until everyone's paper marked then they decide. Dont worry la my chinese cmi Prelim c5, still can get B3 in o level

have asked a HMT friend of mine and he seems equally lost , i think the difference in standards is very big so not a good gauge based on your example ..

Faster ask ur chinese teacher liao, give last min revision, copy the format into your dictionary. Last time i also like that copy format inside dictionary.
nowadays they check dictionary page by page ... and im bringing the electronic dictionary inside .. not the book one
If you pass by popular maybe can go see this book
