Eh.... hello guys. I don't know where to go after O levels ah....
Take a look at my situation and give me some advice ok? Lets just take it that I passed my English but only with a C5/6.
1) My languages are not good
2) Assuming I got an C6 in EL. My L1R5-15 (CCA-1) . I would just nice to be qualified for Pioneer JC.
I know that I am not in a good situation but I really hope to enter a Jc because the poly courses doesn't interest me. I hope to join the police force when I grow up hence I don't find it beneficial in any way going to poly. Also I hope to enter a Uni in SG. Any Uni will do.
Will you still advise me to go for A levels after knowing my O levels are ....so-so only ?

Hello, I am also taking O level this year. Honestly speaking, I also find that O level English this year was quite unusually odd. I also have the same goal as yours - to pursue to JC next year. Because I was sec 4 NA last year, I also took O level English last year and I obtained a D7. Thus, I retake English this year as Sec 5. I was also quite depressed for the moment that almost affected other O level exams. In my humble opinion, these are the following that you should/should not do :
1) Don't make assumption on grades. How do you know that your L1R5 is 15 pts? Just simply because you NEVER KNOW how English and others are going to be marked. This also comes in on how the nation-wide students perform (bell curve). Based on what I concern, quite majority of people saying O level English is not that easy. So YOU are not alone, we are on the same boat.
2) What really matters is something that is currently still under-controlled. Don't because of languages that affect your performance on other subjects. Strive for other subjects to score them! At least you will have no regrets after O levels that you should have had done better.
3) Be confident in yourself! Don't keep saying that you are "not in a good situation." You can make use of this opportunity to score others well to pull up your aggregrate points. You may expect something unexpected to happen - your English may be just up to par! You may be the top student! Just simply because you NEVER KNOW.
4) Determination! Keep continuing to pursue our goals (since we have the common goal). The world is at your feet always! All the best for your upcoming Os.
Thank you and wow looks like you are right, we are on the same boat. I am also Sec5 this year haha. But I didn't know 4NA can take O level English though, nobody in my school has the privilege to take it in sec 4NA too :O
So what Jc are you planning to go to? We might become classmates next year you know xP Lol unless you are aiming for Jcs like RI HCI those top schools ah Haha.
And all the best to you too, few more papers left and we will be freeeeeeeeeee :D
if u dont mind there are PJC, YJC, JJC, IJC loh

Siann life is so tough and stressful in Singapore :( A-sian, no A really sian
china, japan, korea also very competitive
Hi I actually tried to post a super long post justifying my answers to your questions but somehow it didn't get through.
so in an ultra short summary, As a jc student myself, I wouldn't advise you gg to jc esp if You're not that competent in your English language. After all if you do fail GP you can't get into university.
Why not try SIM? It is a private uni and ultimately leads you to a degree. If I had known I could get into SIM using my Olevel results, I would have instead of choosing JC .

Haha, I also stay around Bukit Panjang. Hopefully we can be classmates next year. Yes! Our school offered this privilege to take in advance like English, Maths and Chinese. Nevertheless, I failed for English. However, what was done has been done. I also have this thought to study in PJC since top JCs are too competitive. I am unable to adapt there. Nice sharing with you... :)
Just ace the rest of papers! For language part, it is a lifelong and daily task to learn, such as keeping abreat to current affairs and reading newspaper. It is too big to ignore them.
just work hard , and you will gain the result

so fast make fwen liao
good good
but even no end up in same sch nx yr still can meet up to exchange notes and study together =)
Actually if TS is worried because prelim results are terrible, dun worry...
Prelims are set to have a much higher difficulty than O levels so that the students will "wake up" when they receive poor results.
I was rejected from Pj but got into Jj,my L1R5 was 15 with cut-off. I must admit that Pj>Jj,especially in the academics,it was my first choice but too bad for me.It was 14!
e.g Pj has their General Model essay publishing and Jj,on the other hand, not.
Jj is too focused on maths/science.Being in the maths/science stream,I can understand why,we have a lot of emphasis on chem only to do as well as Pj
We also do not have up-to-standard gp teachers, our distinction rate for Gp is 10%<.
I often scored a string of Ds for my Paper 2 till prelims.Right now,I still don't understand what is wrong with my answers, considering that I am hitting strong Bs for other school's prelim papers,as well as 2013 paper 2.
I scored A2A2B3B3B3B4 for O's and that got me into a Jj in corporation road
I really don't suggest you try Ij,their papers are equal,if not easier than A levels standard. E.g. I hit 77% for Ij physics, while i usually hit 71-72 for other jcs.
Sure, school does not concern your results,if you are hardworking? If this is true,I will already be relaxing before A levels now. School environment and teachers matters. It makes up at least 40% for independent learners. Up to 70% for learners who rely on teachers and friends.
Ah,also try your best not to get to Mi,I am not discouraging you because my bus passed by the school each day, lol.
The top in Mi scores ABBB, A for maths of course! Well,so far no A for chem, this statistic was not biased but based on the account of my friend who left Mi for my jc.
Not many people, thrive in Mi,score As and Bs.The worst comes for those, who scores As for prelims and the above scored for A levels.
I been through lava and ice in Jc,even during orientation,I mug. No joke, coming from an ordinary jc.
Come my Jc ,if you want to struggle for the top 30% to clinch 3Bs.
I have this friend, whom I met earlier after my prelims. He is pursuing IT in poly currently, aiming for police force and his dad is in police too.
He didn't do well for the first year and transferred to another poly.
Based on what he shared with me,qualifications to enter police service, can be very wide. Some did engineering and entered police even biomedical science too!
You don't need a specialised degree to enter police. What you need is to work hard for your O levels and sleep early tonight.
Enough said,get crackin~!
we all love these one-off stories!

Haha I was thinking about the same thing. I'm very easily influenced by the environment. That's why I didn't want to consider Ijc. Other than pjc I also though of Jjc before but in Pjc I have some friends there whereas in Jjc I dont know anybody Lol
Btw this is to everybody. I'm not sure by 11Nov if you guys have taken all your papers. But if anybody want to try or are already playing blackshot, we can play together :D haha the last time I play was during June Holiday bleh :P

Haha SIM ah.... I wish I was rich lol..... yeah I also need to take a look at my EL result next year jan before deciding. Thanks for your advice :D
Lol XD. Its just matter of socialising.. eyy.. i also used to play blackshot but no longer playing liao. Haiz.. but will play perfect world instead..
hi! i'm a student who's finishing my o levels soon. let's say my l1r5 is in the range of 11-14 before deduction and i qualify for cjc/sajc/tpjc. i'm currently aiming for cjc because my school's affiliated to it and also because of the environment but i stay in the east so it's a little too far for me.. tpjc's just 15mins away while cjc is 1h+ away. which should i choose?
Hi there! I am currently a secondary 2 student who just got my streaming results and to my disappointment, I did not get the class I was aiming for as I did not perform as well this year.My subject combination for next year is Combined Science(Phy/Chem),POA,E Math,SS with elective Geography and Pure History and I am aspiring to go to a JC after O's and I really want to be in a science stream. However, I heard that it is difficult for me take H2 science or something like that (Sorry I'm not very familiar with all the H1 H2 stuff) and I may face difficulty in coping with math and science as I have no pure science background and I do not take A Math. I was just wondering as a combined science student can I be in a Science stream in JC if I do well enough for O levels and which JCs should I aim for? Am I at a disadvantage that I am a combined science student in JC? Any help would be appreciated.thanks

You can still be a science stream student in Jc. I have a senior who entered Anderson JC with combined science as well. You should aim for the best jc you can go to depending on your O level results. And from what I heard, you must work harder than those who took double/triple science in O level when you are in JC. Just be self-directed and you'll be fine. And take care of your EL Looool don't be like me, everything no problem but EL big big problem dont know can pass anot LOL

Hi YctLeong! Thanks for enlightening me on this.Should have put more effort in my studies instead of dilly-dallying this year and I would have gotten into a double science class at least to save all these trouble. I'm quite strong in my languages and therefore I don't think I should be worried too much about my EL. it's just the math and science and the JC subject combination that worried me.Anyway thanks a lot for the tip and good luck for your EL too.Cheers!
