if ur results had been good, nope, VERY GOOD all along
Ultimately, it is about what you get for O level: your L1R5 and your L1R4.
Do not take a subject combination just because you want to go to a particular class or because you want face. Anyway, you will only have the "face" for at most two years, because after that, everyone will be looking at what course you take in poly or which JC you go to.\
If your grades are only borderline (below 65%/70%) and you squeeze yourself into top class, firstly you will be among the last in that class. Secondly, which is more important, you may not cope well with the subject.
Suggestion:
I am sure at some corner of your school there is this noticeboard with all the examination results of national examinations. At my school, there is such a noticeboard outside the general office.
Go there. Look at the examination results for O level. Look at the passing rates and distinction rates of the O level subjects.
Thanks for the advice, but i discovered that my rank is 45th because people might be scoring well in subjects that i do not score well in,but my maths and science results make me eligible for 2 pure sciences(im not selected for pure bio as its by invitation only).Heres my options they gave me:Add maths, pure chemistry, pure physics, social studies and history/geography.Now im just deciding whether to take history or geo, heard history need to write alot and memorise alot(doesnt seem like my style),but my history for sec 2 score better than geog(my geog is 78 i think)So can give me some advice?
geog.
History.
Geography a lot of case studies have to find on your own and apply in your answer script. Geography have to memorise a lot of concepts, draw diagrams, etc. Because Geography is "current affairs".
History, on the other hand, is learning lessons from what has already happened. It's only memory work. No need find case studies, etc. Just writing.
That's why, usually, History passing and distinction rates are higher than Geography.
Look beyond O level.
If you want to pursue Polytechnic route, look at which diploma you want to pursue. Choose the one that has the best future. You should discuss this with your parents.
If you want to pursue Junior College route, look at which local university (NUS, NTU, SMU) degree you want to pursue. From there, look at which A level subjects you have to take, and decide which O level subjects to take, to advance when you pursue Junior College route. You should discuss this with your parents.
