I have just recieved my A-Level results and found it quite underwhelming, it is unable to get me into any business courses in the local Unis, however it is able to get me into some engineering courses in the NTU or NUS.
I have heard that many engineering degree holders are able to to enter the finance sector (which is my ultimate goal) due to their abilty with numbers and analytical thinking etc. Which is why I have thoughts on entering one of NTU's engineering courses and maybe do a minor in Business. Would this be a good idea? Or should I just study Business in a private Uni instead?
Also, I have heard of NTU's double major(?) degree where I can take engineering with a second major in Business? Will I have to meet the grades for the business courses in NTU or do I just have to meet those for the Engineering course.
Thanks to anyone who will reply. Any advice would be greatly appreciated at this point.
An engineering graduate can do business, but a business graduate cannot do engineering.
Engineering is good.
But I assure you it will be super super hard to score, especially if you falter at A level Maths and Physics.
take a finance degree at a private Uni.. Bank recognise degree cert from reputable oversea university like UCD etc etc.
U can have a look at the list of banking and finance degree offered on
www.schoogle.com.sg

Ngeeloon, so you'd suggest I get a degree at a private uni in finance rather than get an engineering degree at a reputable local uni?
While I have considered that, I have also heard many stories of how graduates from these private unis are unable to find decent jobs and have poor future prospects.
Since my ultimate goal is to break into the financial industry would you think a degree in engineering with a minor in business at a reputable local Uni be better or a degree in finance at a private uni?
Thanks for your reply!
I would choose a degree in finance in a private U if my long term objective is to have a career in a banking and finance industry.
Anyway why should i take a engineering course when my interest is ultimately in finance industry. Not to mention engineering course is not easy to study if you not have interest in it.
.
There are many successful private U graduates who ultimately still earn as much as a local U graduate. I'd honestly choose to pursue my field of interest (business in your case) than to struggle with a course which i lack passion and interest. Sometimes it's these little things that pushes you forward to achieve your grades. Apart from that, i believe it's luck and character that determines how successful you will become. So go for it, it's better to major in business/finance than to minor in it. I personally had many A level holders (reputable JCs imo) buddies back in UOL who chose private institution and did not regret their decisions. So its up to you to decide. Best of luck
Jasonhwq is right.
Furthermore degree offered by Private institute are from recognise oversea university like UCD or UOL just to quote a few example.
If you mean make a career in business, it can be a bit more challenging than say taking Masters in Finance or business.
