has anyone been tutor in Singapore right now/before?
How to get any good tuition assignment? If you want to say "find tuition agency on the internet", please suggest those that can help foreign student to get some tuition assignment, thanks.
it seems really impossible for me to get one at all, no matter how low I quote the price at.(I have even tried just $10~$12/hr)
Just because I didn't go through Singapore's education, my knowledge can't be helpful to their children to get good grades? oh, really?
yah, really
So does it mean as a foreign student, even though you are undergrad, you cannot get any tuition job in Singapore?
yah, but u can give free tuition to poor kids if u are good
I am not saying that I give tuition for money, but... if I totally cannot get money at all, what kind of purpose for me is there to waste time then? I would rather get some other part-time job, or even rot in house and wait for the school term. Besides, I have suggested free 2-weeks trial for the places near where I stay right now, but there is no response from them also.
u shd not be working.
no work no money
ang need some cash to survive i guess
risk 回国 ?
@fireice: from what I know, being private home tutor shouldn't be any problem.
Besides, actually a foreign student studying in NTU can work for 16 hours per week during term, and 40+ hours per week during vacation.
"Full-time matriculated international undergraduates and graduate students may work a maximum of 16 hours a week during term time and full-time during the vacation. Undergraduates working part-time on campus under theWork Study Scheme may work a maximum of 14 hours a week during term time and nine hours a day or 44 hours a week during the vacation."

but not familiar with the local syllabus
parent also not taking the risk
and tuition agencies also need to verify your details strictly these days
If you didn't go through Singapore education system, and have no prior experience teaching...
1) How would you know what would be commonly tested?
2) How do you know the common pitfalls of Singaporean students, and target them specifically?
3) How would you know the marking criteria of examiners?
4) How would you know the syllabus changes that had occurred over the years?
I'm not discriminating against you, but a discerning parent would think twice and not want to waste time and money to let you use their child as a learning tool to understand the above 3 points, since you did not go through the education system here. A student's time is also limited and precious.
Alamak.
You quote a price of $10/hr is like suggesting you are some pirated tutor...
@eagle: then for foreign student, there is no way to earn money by being a committed part-time tutor?
and yes, I do know that the style of how the question is out in exam can be different in different places, but the knowledge is always similar, if not same.
or else, how can outstanding foreign student get into the university in other countries, e.g. Singapore, in the first place? the knowledge they learn is applicable here and the standard they have is okay too: at least the university agrees that the knowledge foreign students learn is enough to get into the university. I am just having this as my own belief and thinking that I should be able to give tuition too.
and also, some foreign students even can get into MOE and become a teacher without being familiar with the Singapore syllabus beforehand.
@SBS2601D: Bo bian one. I am not really experienced and also not having any experience in Singapore's education system.
(and since a lot of jobs that sound a little easy also don't want foreign student, I think I should just try to be a tutor then.)
That's very untrue.
Tuition is very different from school teaching although there are similarities.
Furthermore, being able to study in local uni is also something very different from teaching the local sec sch and jc syllabus.
By claiming that you should be able to teach tuition based on the above 2 points.... Is already a good indication that you don't know what problems the local students face.
This is nothing to do with your competence at all, nor is it anything against you. I'm stating to you the common viewpoints of local parents which you have clearly no understanding too, given you weren't educated here. It's the parents who are going to pay the tutor the fees and not the student.
