Nothing new, of course. And nothing will ever change. 10 years ago, today, 10 years from now. Nonetheless, I still encourage students with the passion to join the MOE teaching profession, for the experience. Just be judicious and know when it's your time to move on.

Teacher of 10 years reveals reasons for leaving the profession
Today's confession is from an outgoing teacher who reveals the reasons for finally deciding to call it quits after being in the job for a decade.
Here is the confession in full:
"The main reason why I left teaching after 10 years is because I felt I was merely a part time classroom teacher, but a full time administrator, event organiser and CCA teacher-in-charge.
"For example, why do teachers need to call up event guests to ask them if they are coming for a Speech Day event?
"Also, I left because I was sick of being part of the 'wayang' troop: Whenever a VIP drops in, the whole school has to put up a performance of having happy, enthusiastic students and teachers.
"Thus, the VIP may thus think that all is well in schools when it may not be so."
That is what the leader want to see and the followers will have to put up a show.
Just like the fairy tale "Emperor New Clothing".
Those who wayang will be rewarded.
That is good po-lick-ticks for Singapore.
it's ok
we have stomp to show the "real" sides
Teaching are also getting harders these days...
Too much homework, student complain, parents complain, everyone complain...
this cannot, that cannot, discipline also beri hard to enforce... once use cane then parents go look for minister or MP...
Must stay behind mark homework, mark papers etc etc... tiring with little recognition...
teaching really have it tough nowadays...
A current (but soon to be ex) MOE teacher blogged the following (fyi, the wife is the teacher, the hubby is a SAF regular).
