Apple announced a new version of the iPad, calling it the iPad Air, on Wednesday (Oct 23). The tablet with a 10-inch display screen will now weigh one pound.
The previous version weighed 1.4 pounds.
According to a report in The Straits Times, Apple also shaved off almost 2mm off the iPad, making it 20 per cent thinner at 7.5mm thick while the bezel is 43 per cent smaller.
The iPad Air will also run on the latest A7 chip.
The tablet will be available in Singapore from November 1. The iPad Air, WiFi only version will start from S$688, while the cellular version starts from S$870.
Apple also added its high-definition "Retina Display" to the iPad Mini to stay competitive with recent upgrades to the smaller tablets sold by Google and Amazon.
It will also be available in November and will go for $548 onwards.

The long awaited iPad Mini with Retina Display is finally available for purchase on Apple Online Store. At time of publication, the 16GB and 32GB models show a shipping schedule of 1-3 business days while the other two higher storage capacities (64 and 128GB) show delivery dates of 5 to 10 business days.
The second generation iPad Mini retains the same form factor as its predecessor, although it is slightly thicker and heavier due to the Retina display panel and possibly a larger battery. It also runs on the latest Apple A7 processor which is based on a 64-bit architecture.
