My hard-drive used to be working fine for more than a year until one day I could not get my computer to start. I am using Windows XP and it could only load for a while before it got stuck and the system restarts by itself. I had to run CHKDSK /r in recovery mode using my Windows XP CD in order to get my computer to successfully start. It usually reports that CHKDSK had fixed one or more error on my disk. I last had this problem a few months ago and it has been rather rampant this time around!
The problem doesn't just end there, my computer crashes every time I run many applications at a time and sometimes, "My Documents" becomes unresponsive when I try accessing the file. After it crashes, it all comes down to luck on whether Windows can successfully load or I will have to run CHKDSK /r in recovery mode again to get Windows started again. Again, CHKDSK reported it had fixed one or more errors on my disk.
Strangely, I had tried running a full CHKDSK using the Windows XP program but it reported no error! There aren't any clicking sounds on my hard-drive either!
At the moment, I believe that all of my problems are caused by a possible failing hard-drive. Am I right or are there any other related problems?
it is the windows , reinstal your windows , may be file that os needed are corrupt
That means I have to reinstall all my applications again! It would take a really long time! Something I will choose to avoid! Is there a way to find out exactly which OS file is corrupted so I can fix it in windows recovery mode?
very difficult to know which file.
IF you can repair your Os with cd it may be ok but sometime this has no effect.
Best is to backup your file , format partition and reinstal OS. You should be carful when format. you will lost your previous data , password etc...
It take about one to repair
2 hours to reinstal OS and driver.
There might not be anything wrong with your hard drive. Yours could be a case of overheating, resulting in your system being hang and your drive be unresponsive.
That's y there is nothing wrong with the drive when you do the CHKDSK.
Check your fans, clean up dusts and i think it should work fine...No need to reinstall.
This could be a possibility! My PC casing is rather old and dirty. The fans were also full of dust. I took everything out and cleaned it even though it can't be perfect as some rust had permanently stained the casing. Sometimes, windows will still fail to load and I will have to go to the chkdsk /r console again but the frequency had reduced from about once a day to just once or twice in a week. I'm still trying to find out the root of the problem. Nevertheless, I need to get a new PC casing as my current dirty casing may be building up the heat within.
