Hello All,
Need some advice here...
I'm buying a hi-fi set from the US and is planning to use it at home (SG)
Understand the voltage requirement is different, (US is 120V compared to SG 240V)
So what do I need for my set to prevent it from getting fried?
And how much will it cost and where can I buy it?
Answers are greatly appreciated.
Hello, before buying, you may want to ask the distributor/dealer if the hi-fi product comes with a version that accepts universal voltages, like 100~240V. This will be more convinient.
If not, to prevent your product from getting fried, you must buying a 240V to ~120V transformer/plug/converter.
You can usually find them at electrical stores/hardware shops.
A cheap one will cost less than $40, but please read the following paragraphs first before buying a cheap one
You should take note that as are buying a hi-fi product, these product usually comes with power amplifiers that are used to power the speakers, and they will consume power.
Thus, it is important to ensure that the 240V to 120V transformer that you are buying can handle the amount of power(measured in watts) the hi-fi set is drawing.
For example, if the hi-fi set you are getting consumes a continuous power of 200 watts, you should get a step down device that can handle 200 watts of continuous power. You can damage the transformer if you are using a transformer that is only rated for 50 watts to do a 200 watts job.
Therefore if i were you, i will first check with the dealer to see if they have that product that can accept 240volts, to avoid the troubles
thanks alot for your advice.
