Hello!
I have a qn, when i play games like Diablo 3 at full resolution, i think its 1920 x 1080 or smth similar, 16:9 widescreen i think.
The graphics is laggy and jerky and not smooth.
And i'm using a Nvidia 520 GT 1GB graphics card.
When i lowered the res on Diablo 3, the gameplay is smooth and better.
And so, i was wondering, where does the problem lie? I'm guessing my card isnt powerful enough to handle D3 with the *settings set to the lowest.*
If i were to upgrade my card, do i need to change my power supply too?
add a fan to blow directly at the GC
You may not need to use another power supply, post your PC specs including the power supply type and wattage.
Okay guys, i will post my specs up later in the day when i get home!
Thanks for the replies and help so far!
Do note ur 580 min requirement is 600w... so get a PSU higher than that if u ever need to change...
graphic rendering is 1 thing, how about ur processors?
Hello everyone!
So here's my specs,
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 620.
Processor i5-2320 3.00ghz 3.00ghz (4 cores)
4gb DDR3 of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 1GB
And a 250W (though it states 230W at the back of my CPU)
Yup!
Any other details needed just let me know!
oh wait... GT 520 ah? i tot u're talking abt GT 580...
520 is ehhh.... 300W or 320W min requirement I think (almost half of GT 580)... U shld upgrade to a slightly better PSU...
Current 600W are rather cheap but u might as well upgrade or a more "standard" Corsair 750W so next time no need change again...
and maybe it's abt time to invest in a good graphic card... Top tier might be expensive but if u get 1, it can last u many years b4 u even need to change...
Ohh okayokay. So i guess i should get a Corsair 750W.
Whats the price like for it?
And maybe a slightly better graphics card, say mid-end range prices and recommedations too please.
price wise I long time no keep track le... but can go over HWZ check out their price list...
I presume u are familiar with the simple DIY assembly of parts?
As for graphic card, maybe can get ken ken to advise? I suggest u let him know ur budget...
You will have issues with room for a gfx card in an Inspiron 620, theyre not designed for gaming, more an office machine.
Upgrade the PSU and go for either an AMD HD6770/HD7750 or Nvidia 550ti which you could get away with a 400w PSU if you wanted. These are the smallest gaming capable cards that will run Diablo sweet.
If you wanted a larger or more powerful GPU, check the length of the card against the room you have in the case. But if you wanted to do this, i would just get a proper gaming PC than upgrading an Inspiron.
Thanks Acid! Will head over to HWZ and check out the prices.
Yup, am familiar with assembly of the CPU.
Budget would be around $100 to $160 i guess. +/- $20
Alright, since the Nvidia 550ti is recommended then i shall get it!
How much power do i need for my PSU?
as I said above, 400w will be fine. There's no point future proofing an old Inspiron.
Here's a calculator that can give you a tailored result based on your exact specs: http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine
I have no idea which PSU to buy.
Can someone recommend me a good 400w PSU?
STOP. The 230 or 250W marking at the back of your PSU is the input. That is the wall socket wattage in Singapore.
To see the output, open your casing and see the big label on the PSU inside. It will show the brand etc.
I am very sure your PSU is already at least 400W. 400W was already standard in the single core days. It is very likely higher.
Your computer came ready made, they should have put in a sufficient PSU for the graphics card. Upgrade your PSU only if you want to upgrade the card or CPU. Depending on the PSU output you might not even need to upgrade it.
Just used the caluator. My system's minimum is 466W and recommended is 516W. I've been playing games on it for years without any problems with my 400W PSU.
EVERYONE STOP.
WAIT
SO MUCH MISINFORMATION.
HOLD THAT SHIT.
OK. Let's start.
Firstly, the 230W/250W markings on your power supply are NOT VOLTAGE MARKINGS. The voltage markings, if any, are 110/240V located near or on the red switch at the rear of your power supply. 230W/250W is either:
a) Nominal Load Output/Peak Load Output
OR
b) Total combined +12V power/Total combined +3.3V +5V +12V power
Secondly, the GT520 is far too weak for any real gaming at 1080p. A HD6850 1GB DDR5 is going at clearance prices now, and is a worthy buy bing far more powerful than the GT520. Pair that with AMD's Catalyst 12.1 drivers (please do not use 12.4 and above) and you'll have a pretty good combo that's capable of playing just about any games.
For power supplies, the FSP Aurum 400 is a unit that's far more than just capable than handling your system. It does not mean that a PSU with higher wattage is better. Sim Lim sells $18 crap that boasts to be able to do 680W. Do you believe that shit?
Besides, the real calculations for your system, assuming you buy the HD6850 are as follow:
CPU: 95W
GPU: 130W
HDD: 20W
RAM+MB+Peripherals: 80W
Of course, the real world figures are far less scary than this. These are TDP figures; and you'll only achieve them if you're running IBT + Furmark + HDTune bench all at the same time. Of course, no one does that, its insanely stupid to do that for extended periods - people only do this if they want an ultimately stable overclock.
Additionally, if you're running such a low load on a high cap PSU, chances are that your efficiency is going to be crap. The ideal efficiency range of a PSU falls between 40-70%. And whilst you may argue that my calculated maximum demand of 325W is already at 80%, I shall reiterate that it only occurs AT MAXIMUM STRESS LEVELS. When gaming, it consumes way less than that amount of power. And I don't believe you spend all your time gaming either. What about the times when you're just surfing the Net? I'm sure it constitutes 70% of your daily PC usage. That is when the correct PSU matching comes in. Idle power draw for Sandy Bridge and AMD cards HD5000 and onward are so ridiculously low that the total power draw falls to 30% or less.
So yes, end of story. 6850 + Aurum 400 is your best bet.
Additionally, since you've got your case opened, measure the length of the motherboard. Horizontal length, not the vertical height. In the Inspiron 620, that's about as long a graphics card you'll be able to accomodate.
HELLO EVERYONE!
I am now running on a Cooler Master 550w and a Nvidia GTX550ti.
I must thank all of you for your help!
Running Diablo 3 on full resolution and everything set to high and its running very smoothly!
Thank you!
