a couple of questions -
1. what's your budget?
2. what games do you play or intend to play?
3. what version windows will you use and is it 64 or 32 bit?
i heard i7 3rd gen is currently facing some prob. what i can suggest to you actually is look into your graphic card and processor, these are the main keys for gaming, the rest don't really do much so there isn't really a need to spend a bomb on the others, as for casing wise i'd personally prefer storm scout casing, you can go over to youtube and type it out, there are video reviews on it and it looks pretty kick a55 and good to me.

There's no problem with intel's 3rd gen. I own a i5-3450 which performs similar to a i5-2400 but at a much lower power consumption. The heat issue with the 3rd gen is already proven to be with the cooling material used on the processor. And i'm not the only one using 3rd gen without problems.
I wonder if anyone can help me out here. I am planning on getting a custom PC (a beginner here), something that will play Metro 2033 (on high if that is not asking too much). My budget is around $1500 (excluding screen, mouse and keyboard.
1) Is it still possible for me to lower my budget w/o affecting the PC's abilities?
2) Where's the best place to go for parts (in terms of (in decreasing order of importance) quality, cost, service (i.e warranty/customer support))?

Metro 2033 is pretty old now, you'll easily be able to build a computer for less than $1500. Start a thread of your own to get advice.
