Our electric stand fans always seem to break down after just a few months of usage. How can I troubleshoot this problem so I can repair the fan instead of buying a new one? What are common problems which could cause the fan to stop working?
Thank you.
could be due to the motor of the fan..
but seriously, now stuffs are not built to lasts otherwise how can they earn money..

Ahem, stuffs are not built to last, otherwise how can they earn money?
Standing fans are simple things, only a motor and lots of electric switches, so the only problems would come from poor electrical contacts, and that's it.
wat the problemo?
you must have spilled water over the fan
ever thought of fuses?
I don't think this is a very "correct" forum to this question, but oh well...
I am not very familiar with electrical motors and fans, so i am not sure if what i said is correct or not
What kind of problems did you faced with your electrical fan?
Like what kenneth had said, could it be just a blown fused?
Usually there are two main failure with regards to the fan motor.
First one would be the starting coil failure, Second one would be the running coil failure.
Symtomps of starting coil failure would be everytime you start the fan, you hear a loud humming sound, but the fan won't spin. Then you have to manually spin the fan to get it started, then the fan will spin continuously.
Symtomps of running coil failure would be everytime you start the fan, it spins up, then slows down, then spins up again.
Also if the ball bearing is stuck it would cause the fan not to spin as well.
Hope it helps
