Hello, my first post in this sub-forum! Okay, I have a lenovo A300 all-in-one pc, it's pretty much full of unwanted files that I have installed when I was a kid, so it's like almost maximum memory!
The C: has just 10mb of precious memory space left and the D: has 50gb left, as a result of this, my computer is very slow, up to the point where it hangs just by surfing the net! So I was hoping to restore it to factory settings, like when it was brand new.
With like zero data on either hard drives, is it possible to achieve this without any CDs and is it doable DIY style?
Thanks in advance guys!
I'm considered an I.T noob but CCleanup is a free program that can help you automatically clear unwanted data and also helps clean your registry.
After that, defragmenting either by the use of a program or the pre-installed in your computer will help in sorting the files for faster searches.
And lastly, running a virus scan after all that to ensure that it's not something else causing the slow down in performance.
AVG also offers a 24-hr trial of its clean up software, which you might want to take advantage of, while also allowing you to run a virus scan.
Maybe the other experts will be able to help you further.
If you mean you want to reinstall Windows, yes, that's doable. It's not impossible. New PCs and laptops these days comes with a recovery button. You can press that button and the reinstallation process will start. It will wipe everything and start all over.
However, please backup your files before doing so.
If you mean to clean up some of the unwanted stuffs on your PC, you can do so as well. I'm not sure which version of Windows you are running, so I'm going to assume that it's Windows 7. I'm also going to assume that your PC is not infected with any virus. Because doing any of these stuffs before cleaning up your PC can make things worse.
If you want to be sure, we will go through the procedure of checking your PC first, followed by a performance tuneup.
Step 1
Click on Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features
Remove any unwanted programs from there.
Step 2
Download CCleaner and remove temp files. Save this file to a thumbdrive and extract it.
Step 3
Run Windows Disk Defragmenter (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter)
