it initially started with an artifacts problem. exactly like the 1st 2 pics shown here in this url http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html
so i took out my graphics card and am using the onboard gfx card now. i've also switched to an older hdd and formatted and re-installed windows onto it. now, the artifacts are gone but whenever i play counter-strike source(css), the graphics are lousier of course(cos i'm using onboard gfx)...not only that, but the game shuts down. the monitor goes into standby mode and the computer shuts itself down.
what could be the cause of this problem? could it be due simply to the fact that the onboard gfx is simply insufficient to run the game? in which case, i just have to get a new gfx card and then that should solve the problem? or could there be anything else...
thanks..
Check the temps of the card and CPU with a tool like HWmonitor or Rivatuner. Most likely GFX card is the culprit.

Insufficient graphics power should not cause your computer to shut down. There is a possibility that the problem is with your CPU.(or maybe both CPU and gfx)
The Northbridge could have been overheating, especially if the onboard graphics was being used.
