Initially, I wanted to buy an eBook reader. I was thinking of the iriver Cover Story, but then I thought that I could use a bit more functionality. So I thought that I might as well buy a tablet pc, as it can function as an ebook reader among many other things.
The only two models that I know of are the ipad and the galaxy tab, so please tell me which one you think is better, and why you think so. Also, I would appreciate it if you guys could introduce me to any other tablets that you guys recommend.
I couldn't find a use for a tablet, so I didn't buy one. And it doesn't fit in my pocket, hard to bring out unless I carry a bag, and if I carry a bag, I might as well bring my errrr netbook out.

Come to Singapore Polytechnic main library next to T6. (It's an open campus and no body will stop you from coming in)
They have a wide selection of tablets in the library just walk in and you will know (ground floor) from Ipad, Ipad2(s), I podtouch 4(s), Galaxy Tab, and recently the cover story.
One thing to say about the cover story - one hell of a fake plasticky feel whose screen is so serreal that it just sees to be a toy with a printed picture on it, and it lags like crap.
Tablets that I recommend
Motorola Xoom
Galaxy Tab - 10.1 inch (there are different sizes for samsung tabs)
Dell streak - Essentially a phone with a very big screen - can be considered as a tablet.
Tablets that I don't reccommend
Creative Android tablets (Gee they are resistive screens)
Viewpad 7/10s (They lag and are not responsive)
Tablet hybrids that can be considered.
Asus eee tablet - not sure if it's out yet, but it can be connected to a keyboard to become a netbook.
Same with the Acer android tablets

It's funny that you should mention the SP library. I am an SP student and I found out about the cover story through using it in the library, Lol. Now I am very interested in the galaxy tab after what you said.
By the way, what are you guys's opinion on the acer tablet?

hello fellow sp-er?
Me, Year 3 , Dip Clean Energy.
I tried the Acer personally. It's fairly responsive. But ... wait for it, it's an Acer - SPers using Acer should know about how "notorious" they are
this is a pic i took of it.. i can't remember where - maybe Clementi mall?
I believe this is the A500 instead of the ICONIA W500. Which doesn't have the dock
The W500 is the Windows tablet version.. with the dock.
Runs on Android 3.0 HoneyComb...
The P1010
2.2 Android Galaxy Tab
What's nice about it is that it has phone functions. Though you will look stupid calling with it. A nicer alternative would be the Dell streak (with a smaller sized screen - 5" vs 7")
Stated for upgrade to Android 2.3.
There's much debate if the tab is getting 3.0 Honeycomb (which is a android ui specially formulated for tablets) - Specs wise, it should able to handle 3.0 - it's up to Samsung.. or your local rom developers - i believe there are custom 3.0 roms for the tabs
Can't say much about the performance with 2.2 cause the sets I have used - the SP ones, those in stores are all jammed packed with applications and there isn't a proper task killer like Advanced task killer - the SP set's screens seem to be quite in-responsive too.
if you intend to get a tablet, you might want to try the 3.0 offerings like the Motorola Xoom before making a decision of sticking to the conventional and familiar 2.x interface or going to a new tablet optimised interface
I can't justify certain tablet prices though.. especially the Ginger bread 3.0 tablets.
Let me quote an example - the Motorola Xoom ($800 - $9XX). I can't justify paying this much for a tablet.
I would rather get a netbook/ cheap i3 notebook (that can run way more applications)/or heck even the 16gb wifi only ipad 2 @ $668 - the pad2 has a very nice retina display that's for sure.. no android tabs can match up with it

I'm unsure of write on the page etc.. don't think have but there are note taking/writing apps.
Oh yes, do you guys know anything about the Amazon Kindle by amazon.com? I know that it is not a tablet, but is an ebook reader. I heard that it is the best reader in the market. How can I get it in Singapore, I have seen a few people on the bus use it.
This should be most sought after. Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 with metallic back casing.
