  Depends what you are looking at.

  Performance wise, if you are a gamer, then the Alienware desktop are top notch (but pricey).

  If you are looking at low-end document processing, a simple desktop should do fine.

  I’m a semi-gamer and they are for pure entertainment. Like download videos and playing games. The only downside is the price is way out of my league.

  If you are not so concerned with the graphical/visual experience, then actually just find the latest few games you want to own, and find a system with specifications above its recommended specification slightly should do.

  SLS DIY systems will do the job just fine, or a mid-range gaming laptop.

  you pay higher prices just because they are "branded" just like "sony". inside is still the same.
