Hi, I just subscribe starhub maxonline (16mps) which comes with Motorola modem & D-link wireless router. At the moment, i don't have the model number of these equipment ready-on-hand as I'm outside and would be back at home on evening.
At first, I could access the internet but realised the dl speed is about 5-15 kp/s (when I downloading with torrent). That's very bad because I expect the speed to match at least 200-300 kp/s.
The modem is working fine, and hence, I believe it would be the configuration of the D-link router. I log in 192.168.0.1 and checked the Upnp box, and did the rest of the setups manually. But, the dl speed is still around 5-15 kp/s.
But if I'm naked downloading (non-torrent program), the speed is alright (around 100 kp/s).
Quite some time back, I fixed my brother's Starhub modem & Aztech wireless router, also 16 mp/s plan. Modem is the same, but the wireless router is different brand. I also checked the Upnp box and whoooa, the download speed can sometimes go up to 1Mp/s! Amazing.
can any kind souls enlighten me about this case? Many thanks. :)
I can do a hard reset of the D-link router, but if the download speed is still slow, is it advisable for me to purchase a new G router?
Do a speed test at http://www.speedtest.net and see what results are you getting.
Torrent speed does not equal to your subscribed speed as it depends on the amount of seeders.
I do believe that it could be starhub limiting download speeds a little.

Speed test is not an accurate measure of internet speed.
Use Utilities from Starhub to test your connection speed.

Compare it with the average value table that is on the site. Contact Starhub if it's not within the range.
