Ok the title might be Misleading, but personally that's how i see it. And this problem might have been posted here or somewhere else, but problem is, i either
1) Can't Seem to Find it.
or
2) Couldn't Find it.
My computer can work Just Fine. Just Fine. But I normally game a lot. like, A Lot.
Ever since *can't remember* after *can't remember* happened, My computer started shutting down. Somewhere around last year, i think, early Spring, or something... i don't know... but my Computer was since 2007, so it can't be any earlier.
The Problem is... My Computer seems to shut down itself as if someone pulled out the power plug, but only when it's under a lot of stress(e.g.: Extracting from a large winrar file, playing Fullscreen games<Stepmania works fine, though; but i can't even play Half Life>, playing some large flash games, watching some videos on fullscreen<even youtube videos on fulllscreen>, etc...). I can't determine whether it's my Motherboard, CPU, PSU, or Video Card. Can't be my RAM cuz i recently upgraded and changed it. Checked the Temps. from Speedfan results and it seemed to be temp 3(dunno which this is, probably my Video Card) and Core(the first one. think this is my CPU, since it's the fastest to shoot up when running stuff. and stuff...) that appear to be out of place. my HDD's have ticks right beside them so they should be fine.
Right now i could either fix my computer or buy/build a new one.
Things to note:
-I have a budget of $1650, and i can only do stuff next Month/Year(Jan). Unless cost < 200.
-I'm a Student, if that helps in any way.
-I have no idea what info you need from me.
It's running on:
-AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+, ~2.4GHz
-Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2
-3326MB RAM
-Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.091208-2036)
-NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT(512.0 MB)
Check the GPU Fan of your graphic card, maybe it has stopped spinning.
Time to get another new pc.

I'm considering that right now actually. trying to minimize cost.

Okay, thanks. though i'm thinking of upgrading it(or buying a new PC =X) since it's quite old. and not suitable for my current needs.
OK maybe you open up your mother board casting....vacunm any dust around the cards etc.....thenuse your hand to push the buttons, cards, rams there and there....and switch on and see how it works?
hah amd
i had my amd processor melt into my mobo before

yup, did exactly that, still no change.

Awesome.
That is bad...last resort, buy a new one...really no choice if you really need badly to use the pc for yr gaming.
well if u got another set of working PC then can slowly troubleshoot by removing and replacing parts one by one...

yeh. Okay. I guess i'll have to wait till i get my salary then.
Yes, please buy more computers and waste more money while people around you saved their money to become richer.
It's not much right now, but every cents counts up enough to make the difference between the rich and the poor in the future.

This post is totally unnecessary.

2 main reasons to auto shutdown:
Your Power Supply might be failing causing not enough power to be sent to the CPU on high loads.
On Stock speeds, the possibility of a desktop getting overheating is pretty low, unless something is blocking the airflow.

Maybe alot of rich people in here or alot of insensible people who just don't understand the value of saving money.
TS mentioned he could either fix it or buy a new computer, to jump onto the decision to buy a new computer without finding out what was causing the computer to auto shutdown is already a defeat to his purpose of coming here.
If TS need a new computer, go to Slim Lim Square or Funan IT Mall to shop for one.
IF what TS really want is to read alot of replies which tells him which hardware brand to buy and do the costing for him without himself going through all the trouble of scouting for his own computer hardwares, then HE WILL NEED TO KNOW THAT HIS INTENTIONS AND PURPOSES ARE WRONG AND NOT IN LINE WITH THE TOPIC.
Maybe it is common for people to hint here and there and secretly hope to feed on other people's goodwill so that they themselves can be lazy and no need to do so much work to scout for their own computer.
But it is not the right way to do it. ASK IF YOU NEED HELP, AND THAT SHOULD BE THE RIGHT WAY!

i know what hardware to buy, i just want to find out what's wrong and at least attempt to rectify the issue before saving up a little bit more for a new computer later on. I'm still going to have to focus on my studies for a few years, so i wouldn't be using my computer for too much gaming. thus all i need is for the problem to disappear, even if just for a while. And at that i also intend not to use too much money during these few months, since i don't have much savings and my parents can't give me their full financial support.

Then i shall attempt, to the best of my ability, to perform a PSU switch between my current computer and my father's computer. I'll update soon with the results, if necessary.
Bring your pc down for repair.
It will not cost much.
There is a shop at tanjong pagar mrt basement 1, not expensive...can try it out there.

You really don't believe me when I asked you to check the GPU fan?
IT'S NOT THE PSU.

i do believe you but i'm not planning to do things too quickly here. My dad doesn't allow me to switch anything other than the psu and the heatsink for now. not much of a choice. i'll try convincing him though.

What's wrong with you? all your posts are sarcastic.
Anyway, there is no 100% when it comes to technology.
Tried updating your graphics card driver?
I had the same problem once, updated my driver and there's no more 'sudden shutdown' problem.

I think you're those I.T support guys who would go and tell your boss that there's nothing 100% when it comes to technology.

Why don't you go and read about your highlighted problems again?
What could be the common factor that is likely to lead to the occurrence of your computer problems?
It's ok, girls know NUTS about computers and shouldn't even talk too much about it.

Hi XTran:
How to update the graphics card driver?
What is the steps I need to do?
Actually my old pc is also got weather.
Now is ok, but after using 1 to 2 months, it begin to shutdown automatically without any reason.
I am intending to use your method to update graphics card driver.
How to do?
Btw...when I switch on the pc, the lcd screen is blank and also keyboard is blank.

Run GPU-Z and SpeedFan and turn on logging. They would log the current temperatures into a text file every minute, so that after your computer goes down, you can refer to the logs later and see what is really overheating.
Reminder to all: keep discussions civil and stay on-topic.

What i have said is a fact.
Anyway, I'm just concerned about passing down the correct information.
