Hi Guys
Any advise?
Thanks bro and sis.
@likeYou.
Look for a netbook with Intel Atom Dual Core N550 processer at least, and must be LED screen.
Don't buy those LCD screen ones, because they are simply outdated and old stocks.
Why don't you try Archos 101 instead?
It's an internet tablet.
Try Asus NETBOOK EEE PC 1015PN.
Intel Atom N550 1.66GHz
NVIDIA ION 2 (GT218 with 512MB VRAM)
1GB RAM, 250GB HDD
10.1" LED
10 Hours+ battery life.
$599 at Harvey Norman.
sounds relli basic.
wty is by who? and where the svc centre?
im using MSI Wind U100+
if u want something more reliable, consider HP and Lenovo
if not the fanciful or the latest ones, u shd be able to snag some at under $500

Hi Call, Yes, it should be the cheapest netbook I can find.
I just dont want to spend a bomb on the netbook or notebook.
I am not a online game lovers or movies lovers.
Only for surfing / fb / company work.
Hi Parn, $599 is over my budget. I try to get a cheap one (budget is around $400) that can last for many years. Probably will read news/forums/work only. No youtubes (fearing of virus) and prono site (totally out) and no clicking of any web link.
Last night, rec a sms from the salesman and he will let me know if the price drop (he even said hopefully), and hopefully can drop to arond $350.
Btw, guys, if the netbook got problem and need to restored, how? As they dont have the cd writer. Just press f10 (some oc F10, while other Fxx) to recover?
Last night at challenger, saw a ASUS netbook, specs exactly the same, the price $499. Why so different? Cos of the brand name?

Hi Fire, yes really very basic with no fanciful specs. Just a very normal, small, and compact netbook. What I fall in love with this is the keyboard. Just nice for my fingers and the touch is comfortable, compare to my other notebook where the keyboard is not nice to key.
350 won't get me a notebook, I might as well sign plan and get a galaxy tab with that budget.
Cheapest netbook $299 from Audio House.
$399 ASUS netbook PC1001A with 9 hours battery, N450, 160 GB harddisk, 1 GB memory from shops in Sim Lim and Funan. I bought it in the last computer fair in September 2010. I am thinking to sell it for $320 as the operating system is Windows XP Home and buy the newer $529 ASUS netbook R101A with N550 and Operating system is Windows 7 starter.
I will probably get the netbook tomorrow evening, the price has been slashed....and hopefully, will push down a little bit further.

Havent heard before anything about getting a virus from YouTube lol.
New netbooks now should all have a recovery partition.
But another way is to get an external drive.(recovery requires CD)
Brand name does affect price, but the main costs should be some hidden specs which you wont know until you ask.
brand name DOES affect price.
technology this type of thing is 一分钱一分货
if it's cheap until cannot believe, then there must be some reason behind it
The salesman told me that it is ok to buy not too expensive brand as it will depreciate very fast and newer vision is being introduced. Thus the price drop very fast.
Yes the audio house sell $299, heard from my friend, it is a china brand.
So, I better take local brand than china made product.
What hidden spec need to look out for?
Will the recovery partition get affected by virus?
Oic...youtube will not transmit any virus.
Fyi...my desktop dont have any anti virus installed.
local brand but made in china?

Though need to be a little careful when buying china brand products, but i wouldnt really care about that. As other brands aren't necessarily better.
Since recovery partition can be seen, there is always a chance of it getting affected by virus. Doing a self back up on a different disk will be better for safety, an average user will probably not require doing so.
Wrong to say that Youtube will not transmit virus...its just at the moment only.
If you have windows firewall on, you are quite safe, provided you surf the internet properly(no porn etc).
Regarding "Hidden Spec", is not really Hidden lol, what i meant was, since there are so many items in a computer, a seller cant possible display all of it thus some specs get unknown.

Fark, all electronic goods prices drop like bricks the minute you purchase it.
