What Anti Virus are you all using ??
I am quite worried about viruses , so what brand do you all recommend ?
Prefer those that are light and with fast scanning speed.
I am using AVG free too.Not sure if it is the lightest
If surfing is done properly, there is a lesser chance of being infected with viruses.

I turned off real-time protection and scheduled a daily quick scan at 2am which runs only when I'm not using the PC; occasionally a full scan if I'm going out for the whole day.
IMO, the best utility apps (antiviruses, firewalls, torrent clients etc.) are not ones with the fastest performance or whatsoever, but those that perform their tasks efficiently in the background without interrupting the way you use your PC with prompts, pop-ups and sluggishness (the same reason why I hate UAC).
My pc right now, dont have any anti virus...been using for more than 1 yr liao. I guess the virus only attack those related to any macrosoft software...am I right?
last time AVG
but knew When u kena virus. they wont clean for u (Free one)
Now using MSE

Anyone heard of Avira anti virus before? Told by my friend that it is really good . He bought it at Comex because it is rated very highly and was no 1 in detection rate , proactive detection rate and also performance test done by AV comparatives( an organization that conducts test of AV softwares) in 2009 and has always been consistently top 3 every year. Name is not so common because its from Germany and just recently marketed to asia . Anyone using Avira also ? Can feedback me how it is or any other AV ... really want to buy an anti virus now cause recently my comp got infected .
Evo , see my post above. Link for download.
But free AV only offers minimal protection , but onźźa is Avira good ?
If good might as well i get the paid version .
i changed from norton to avira and i have been using avira for 2 years alr. last time when i use norton it slow down my computer, i tried out avira and the memory use is very low, i bought it last PC show only as they have just reach singapore. to be exact i have been using the paid version for half a year already and it works great for me.
different people like different brands, but all i know about avira is their scanning speed is fast, the detection rate is high and uses very low memory be it scanning or idle mode. this is what i heard from the product manager when i asked him about avira. =D
i have already purchased another lisence from sim lim already to load it once my current expired =D
I have been using Windows Security Essentials ever since it has been launched. You may refer here for my First look on WSE after a week of using it
To date, my impressions of WSE has been really good. It doesn't bother you unnecessarily (No pop ups unless you have been infected), it doesn't require much resource (running in the background with real time protection) or use much resources (during a scan).
It's simple, straight forward and does what it is designed to do - protect your PC - no fanciful interface - no complicated settings, just 4 main tabs - Main (scan) , Settings, History and Update.
Yet, one should not judge this anti virus by it's looks. Being simple and straight to the point it cuts down on it's installation file (just 7mb), it installs in under 5 minutes (on a verified Windows PC), the most potent thing about it would be beneath this simplified interface - it's Malware detection and removal core. Microsoft, I believe has designed it especially for the average user in mind - an average user does not bother about security settings ect.. they would just download it, install it and Wala~ This Anti virus software runs on great automation, doing what the user installs it for - provide a secure PC.
Overally, it's a light but potent Anti Virus for your PC and it provides more than adequate protection for an average user - Thumb drive infections, Malware,Viruses, Warns of websites that are potentially dangerous.
I'm not even close to being called an expert - I'm just an amateur giving my opinions here. It's always best to consult those whose jobs are solely on the testing on Anti viruses softwares.
Here's are the results from a report on malware removal and PC performance with the specific AV done by Av comparatives (an independent firm)

There's also certification by Av-test.

In the links above you can do your comparisons with the brands of software that are listed in this thread, from Avira, AVG and even Norton before you make your choice.

You know, when I first noticed the option "Start the scheduled scan only when my computer is on but not in use", it made me wonder for a while if it's possible for a PC to be in use when it's off. Then I was like, "Oh, it's Microsoft."
So yea, MSE is pretty much idiot-proof. Everyone, please use it. It's free.
What protection does the free MSE provide?

MSE is gd..
it wont lag ur com when it scanning for virus
onli for the updating
I went to Sim Lim and see lots of Avira there .
The worst is norton...I pay for 2 yrs for that.
The and pc very very slow to setup.
In the end, I cancelled it.
Now, my pc very very fast.
Within less than 1/2 min, can use net liao.
Btw, I did not have any anti virus software now.
Nod32 FTW.. You cant go wrong with it... But it not free though
Free or not does not matter leh . The important thing is protect your comp !!
NOD32.
Avast isn't bad. quite reliable, i can say. Norton is the worst found out in the market. Simply eats up your memory and don't give chance to you.

When I got my laptop last year, first thing is to delete the whole Norton security suite. It eats up the CPU a lot. I relied 2-3 months on AVG Free but then switched to Avast Free. AVG and Avast more or less the same security level but I just prefer Avast's interface. So far on my com, Avast has only caught trojan horses through real-time protection and no other threats through scans.
For firewall, ditch the built-in windows firewall and install Comodo Internet Security (also free), but when installing, choose just the 'firewall-only' option since you would already have other anti-virus & anti-spyware.
