A couple of questions.
1. Do you have on-board sound card? You can easily verify this in Control Panel (Sound). How many devices did it list for the playing of sounds?
2. Is the new sound card installed successfully? You can check this in Device Manager. Ensure that it has no yellow exclamation mark.
Some hardware can't be updated/detected by Windows. You need to go to the manufacturer's website to download the latest driver and install it. A restart is required.
For the no icon in task bar issue, you need to enable it.
1. Start > Control Panel
2. Double click on Sounds and Audio Devices
3. In the Volume tab, tick this box: Place volume icon the taskbar
hi my previous sound is from the mboard ,intergrated ,it could not work so i bought a old creative soundcard of which i got no idea what model it is
1.control panel shows no no audio devise listed(no sound devise)
2.device manager has 2 exclamation marks
a.game port for creative(exclm.mark)
b.sound blaster 16 or awe 32or compatible wdm(exclm.mark)
3.devise manag. also lists
a.audio codecs
b.legacy audio drivers
c.legacy video capture devices
d.vedio codecs
4 . cant tick on control panel since there is no sound device
Maybe the intergrated sound card is causing the problem since it keeps reappearing after removing it or can i ever replace it or ive got no choice but to use it but it is not working in the first place
Try disabling the integrated sound card first, then install the sound card. Does the sound card still have the Creative sticker? It should state the model number.
If it doesn't have, does the receipt state it?
thks mod ,now ive got the icon on the taskbar but still no sound maybe something wrong with the speaker ,try to change it n try again ,thks at least im getting somewhere
You mentioned that there are yellow exclamation marks. That means the drivers have not installed properly yet. Need to find out the model number to download the correct driver and install so that it will work properly.
Let me see if it's doable via software instead of inspecting the hardware.
Thks mod problem fixed ,i just changed to new speaker n sound is back ,thk u very for your help
just one question , how do reduce the space for my old hard disk ?
it is 70 gig n 60 is used up ,try to delete the old doc.n vedio n picture files but still alot of occupied space ,
is it easier to reformat n reinstal the os
will i still get support from ms for my xp, i mean to get the sp 1n 2 for xp
You need to empty the Recycle Bin otherwise the space would still be tagged as used.
Support for XP has already ended for all users except enterprise users. You will not get any support from Microsoft other than tech support forums.
