Hi, recently I tried playing games such as Battlefield: Bad company 2 and GTA: episodes from liberty city and it seems that my graphic card is not good enough to support these games... I've already tried running on Low details and gameplay is still too choppy...
Now, I thought of upgrading my graphic card but I'm entirely clueless on what kind and whether my other computer parts would be compatible with the new graphic card. Can someone please enlighten me a little? Thanks in advance!!
My computer is an Acer Aspire M5630...
My current card is a nVidia GeForce 8600GS
i went online to find the specs on Acer website but I'm clueless with regards to upgrading the graphic card.
Here's the link: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireM5630/AspireM5630sp2.shtml
THANKS!

You will need 2 things: A new power supply and a new graphics card.
First off, what resolution is your monitor? What is your budget?
Your computer uses PCI-e slot which most graphics card out use, so no need to worry about compatibility.
For 4830, you probably don't need to change the power supply.

His PSU is probably a 250W FSP Group, or a 300W Bestec.
None are very good, and swapping up to a Seasonic S12 II 380B would definitely do him some good.

My uncle has an extra graphic card that he wants to give me.
Its a ASUS EAH4830.
Is that any good?
The 4830 will do you well, it's a good card. However, you will need to get a new PSU. I would suggest the Vantec ION2+, Andyson F-series, or the AcBel iPower series for being cheap but reliable.
Thanks all for the replies.
Indeed, my PSU is only 250W while 4830 require min of 400W. I guess i've to replace my PSU with a 500W one. as for the graphic card, since its free from my uncle, why not.
I'm on a budget, guess I'll look out for those Raraken mentioned..
$100 enough? hehe

you can pick up a Vantec ION2+ PSU, which is selling at around $75.

Second this. I'm using a Vantec ION2+ 500W, 3 years warranty, good power supply with enough juice to run my system (Heavily overclocked CPU, 4 HDDs and a power-hungry GPU) and still has power to spare. Stable voltages too. The iPower isn't so bad either. 5 years warranty, no frills power supply. Gets the job done, and it gets the job done right.

You can find hidden gems if you try hard enough. I only found out how good it was after doing a bit of research. It's not very efficient, but it's stable.
