Starhub Cable signal

i have some problems on cable tv signal. i have called a tech from starhub and it says that it was due to my cable line which was from the main cable point that links to 2 rooms. Meaning to say the main point has no problem just that the extended line to the 2 rooms have problem.
Main to 1st room -> splitter -> 2nd room.
1st room splitter connects 2nd line and setup box.
2nd room splitter connects modem and setup box.
Problem is when i use internet in 1st room, the channels jumps (jagged) and it's very disturbing. Tech says if possible change the cables if not, i have to buy a booster that will boost up the signals. Some ppl says that if u use a booster, internet connections may affect causing unable to connect. How true is it?
*Cables are made by my dad and i highly feel that it's the cables that are causing the problem.
