I have read about the upgrading to Windows 7 in schools. Usually schools from the west, north west, east and the north are preparing for the move. And the North East are still forgetten to be the last one to be upgraded.
Some schools use Windows XP, some use vista.
Schools in Singapore also need to purchase Office 2007 or Office 2010 (RTM). Everybody need to be relaxed. MOE had told MICA for their schools that 'upgrading should not be a problem'. Doubt that some mass replacement, and then need to complete by end of 2012. Like the 'Mass replacement of EZ-Link'.
My school have already started using windows 7 enterprise on the computers. I have windows 7 installed on my laptop, and i believe the laptop for student next year will come with windows 7
I think one of the reason for the slow change is that they need to make sure softwares are compatable with the OS
Some old computers are not very efficient in running windows 7.
Everything takes time i suppose, and by the end of the change, new OS may be out, and the cycle goes again
Why dont they change to a better product such as MacOSX 10.6 or Ubuntu?
And for sure they should not purchase Office 2007 / 2010 anymore, they should learn from MinDef such that all use Open Office. (We, the citizens of Singapore, are not as rich to pay Microsoft Tax here and then and the possibility of being spied by the US)
My school still uses Windows XP. I heard XP is the most stable OS, that's why they are still using it?
But anyway, the my school also just purchased new computers fitted with Windows 7, but are NOT connected to the MOE internet.
i bought a new labtop recently which comes with windows 7.
I do not find it user friendly at all. Still prefer windows xp or vista. I also do not like office 2007. Still prefer office 2003.
Microsoft products are getting from bad to worst!

My School using Mac OSx 10.5.8(Leopard) lol!
10.6 is Snow Leopard, so now the school is in the midst of upgrading the software... Damn stupid, upgrade like dat need two weeks wth~...
My school also has Macs in the library. There's a special room for it, call the White Room, since the Macs are white. Hahaha.
I don't give a shit whether my school continues using XP or starts using 7.
I'd rather school do away with the McAfee, Sygate Firewall, and 'Scan everytime the PC powers on' shit.
Then the 2.4GHz P4 S478 + 512MB DDR + Radeon X300SE things will run faster. It's the stupid continual virus scan and stuff that really clogs up the loading speed.
And they seriously need to get IE7 at least. IE6 is hopeless.
I open two IE windows on those PC's, the whole thing hangs.

LOL the old desktop white macintoshs ah...
Walao my school has another room for those, primarily used for video editing...
But no one uses them anymore, everyone(including me) uses final cut express on my macbook.
LOL

Oh the iMacs...
My school has another studio for the iMacs too...
Those are registered under Mac OSx 10.5.4.
LOL...
My schools has this Mac Lab thinggy that has macs that are usally used for the O level Music students. Our school comp labs all use win xp that is ok except for that stupid mcafee and encentuate thinggy. Makes everything lag, ironically, wireless connection seemed faster then LAN. Why so..

Yeah, but not for use by normal students right?
I think the only ones permitted to use them are those taking music modules. I saw 3 iMacs in the Orchestra room also.

I agree. My sister's PC on a Celeron 2.4GHz boots up faster than my school PCs, which use C2D chips. 2.26GHz IIRC. I blame all the useless junk they installed.
For Most Engineering/ IT students in University and Polytechnics
Windows 7 should be available on your MSDNAA account.
my sch com lab still using window xp pro... zz
then the internet still IE6... pro right...
My sch oso got imac called "imac lab" but used it sometimes hehe
Recently,
My school's comp just upgrade their IE6 browser to IE7.
Office 2010 has been released ! Deployment of Office 2010 and Windows 7 takes place at the slowest speed. By 2012, fibre optic & Windows 7 SHOULD BE COMPLETED !
Then the MOE only do it at HQ. 50% of schools are upgraded to Windows 7, 2% to Office 2010.
My had changed the computers in some of the labs had changed to those LCD types(Lenovo). thge others are still using IBM computers. Still using the ancient Windows XP.
Edit: Double post
die..more work to do
It'll be so good if the school could upgrade the OS.
