my laptop HDD had failed and i require data recovery. i have tried taking out the HDD and plugging it into my other laptop via USB but to no avail. i have lots of important stuff inside that has to be taken out asap. any advice please?
claim warrenty. if not, use those commercial data recovery companies
Is there power to the HDD?
I believe that the circuit board of the HDD have failed to deliever power/data.
If you know how to do it, you can get a harddisk that is exactly the same as the one you are using now. I think that the firmware needs to be the same too.
After which you can just swap the circuit board and things will work, unless of cos the disk itself is not damaged

yeap. there is power to the HDD. the HDD is able to run and spin normally, but the big problem comes when Windows doesn't seem to be able to detect the drive...
BIOS can detect?

yup. BIOS was able to detect the HDD.
Have you tried to plug it in as a external hard disk drive with those casing available commercially? I used to have a hard disk that Disk Management in Windows can detect but unable to initalize
