Dear Forumnites,
My PC keep experiencing the blue screen of death upon startup and automatically restarts. It also hangs sometimes, resulting in me doing a manual restart. This goes on for at least 2-3 times before it becomes stable.
Also when I shutdown my PC, it goes to the same blue screen of death, resulting in me having to force power off to shutdown my pc everytime.
I suspect it is my graphics card problem but I can't be sure. How do I go about determining the root of the problem and so that I can get it fixed.
Thanks for reading.
it could be anything. I had an old sound card and i got the same thing too. Does your motherboard come with onboard graphics card? try removing your agp or pci-e graphics card and use the onboard one to troubleshoot. If problem still persist that means it might be other cards or ram causing the problem. Might be loose card or ram as well. Try reinserting everything to check 1st.
By right you should copy down the error code and do a google search online, there might be some people having the same problems with you.
For me, in most BlueScreenOfDeath(BSOD) involving booting of the system, i will start by troubleshooting the hardware.
When the computer starts, the 1st program that run is the BIOS. During that time, the system will check the hardware installed. Thus most of the time if the computer cant boot up till the windows logo, it should be the hardware at fault.
Try to take out the RAM(s) installed in your computer.
If you have only 1 ram, rub the contact with an eraser, clean off the dust, and put it back, if it cant work, find a working spare one from friends or somewhere.
If you have 2 or more rams, take both out, put them in one by one and boot the computer. If one of them is faulty, the computer wont start, take out that one, put in the 2nd ram, if it starts, most likely the 1st ram if faulty, and tat could be the source of the booting problems. If both ram cant work, put in a new working ram and continue troubleshooting.
Lets say Even after putting in new ram, the problem still exist, keep the working ram installed, try to change other components like graphics card.
Most of the time if the comptuer doesnt boot after putting in new ram, it could be that the ram slot is faulty.
IF you have no problems booting up, but BSOD while running windows, it could be software or driver issues, however it doesnt mean that your hardware is not faulty
Try to check your RAM
not to forget, the fact that the hard disk is failing means its inability to load files at startup and thus causing crash.
how old is this computer, and is it a laptop or desktop?
how is the computer usually handled?
does it get bumped around when its on, e.g. kids running around teh house, playing, then stuff gets knocked into the computer, computer sustains shock etc.
Though a point to note is if the hard disks are failing, bios would still be functional :D
