Hi , I would like to know if there is a big difference between a Core-i7 720 and a Core-i7 820, and if so , how much difference is there? and is 4 gb ram enough for average gaming as I have read up on it and some gamers out there said that anything over 4 gb is an overkill , anyone care to confirm ? thanks.

Core i7-720QM has only 6MB L3 cache, and runs at 1.6GHz while the 820QM has the full 8MB L3 cache and runs at 1.73GHz.
4GB is more than enough. The 720QM and 820QM are laptop processors anyway, so it's nearly impossible to fit 8GB into a laptop unless you use 4GB SODIMMS or have 4 memory slots.
oh thanks , few more questions ,
will these specs be able to support the following games at the highest settings with windows 7?
Games :
Left for Dead 2
DotA
CabalSEA
AuditionSEA
CombatArms
Specs:
OS : 7 Home Premium 64bit
Processor : Intel® Core™ I7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, turbo up to 2.8GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
Memory : 4GB (2GBx2) 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Hard Drive : 128GB Solid State Hard Drive ( should i opt for the 256 gb? )
Video Card :1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 260M

Dump the SSD, very expensive and very low capacity. Get a conventional HDD instead, cheaper and more storage capacity.
Other than that, its perfectly fine.
o.o what laptop is this?
if i'm not wrong the processor max speed can get up to 2.8ghz when doing heavy stuffs like gaming and idles at 1.6 ghz so it can save power.
with your rig... it COMPLETELY DESTROYS the games you are playing. gtx 260m is not a bad graphics card too.
and are you doing any 3d animations renderings or heavy video editing? if not 4gigs of ram is good to go.

oh okay , thanks but i heard that SSDs are faster then a regular HDD? I might be wrong tho...
and @SBS7484P,
it's a customised Alienware m15x , costs about 3.5k? somewhere there kinda expensive , but i guess thats what you get.
whoa... power laptop..
its gotta weight... at least 3 KGs minimum !
heavy! For my standard

isnt the original priced around 2.4k only? how come yours so expensive?
pretty expensive for a not so high specifications.

Yes, but getting a HDD means more games and stuff, and you can save some cash. A 500GB+ HDD costs about half as much as a 64GB SSD.

SSDs indeed have better performance than a regular hdd. The costs don't justify. Prices won't drop much either in the foreseeable future. So get a regular HDD. Bigger capacity.

laptop or desktop? and yes pls drop the ssd its too pricey and i think its extravagant to get it
erm , one more question , can anyone please tell me will the
512MB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M
and the
1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M video cards
have a big gap in performance in the above mentioned games?
( putting it here for your convenience :D )
Left for Dead 2
DotA
CabalSEA
AuditionSEA
CombatArms
also , I would like to know will I do fine with the
512MB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M
in future games or would I need to get the
1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M?

If you got money, go for the GTX 260M. If not, GT 240M is fine. GT 240M is better for efficiency, since it is built on a more efficient process. But if you prefer power, GTX 260M is the way to go. The GT 240M will do fine.
