Hello.
Last night, i was playing dragonica( havent played for a long time ). When i was in the game, within a minute, my game hanged and i waited patiently. At that moment, the music was repeating and repeating. After a minute, my screen shows a blue screen with words like " Your system has crashed blah blah ( didnt manage to read finish as the computer auto-restarted itself. ) Then, my windows restarted and it took longer than usual to boot up. Then it showed a page of " Your windows have failed due to software or hardware malfunction. Or of a sudden change of programs " and there were options like 'Auto-repair' and 'Start windows normally'.
I tried auto-repair, but it says it could not be auto-repaired( tried this at least 5 times ).
I tried Start windows normally, but it will never load to the desktop. Not even the Windows logo.
Then, my guess is either my HDD is spoilt, or my graphic card is spoilt as my game decolourised when hanged. Or the problem might be windows?
Please help, thanks!
From your description, it sound like a corrupted windows.
You can try to put in the windows xp cd and do a repair:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
Game decolourises can be caused by graphics card or the ram, a faulty ram will cause the computer not starting, start halfway and show a 'decolourised' windows xp logo and cause reboot
try to shake the ram or re sit it and try
hmm..but i am using a vista.. do i still use your link?
It could be ur ram bah.. either not put proberly or ur ram cant support the game tat makes u lag and hang. last time i like u (but way ok than u). my ram got one chip burnt and i still used it (it is 256MB btw and it sucks) until ydy i have upgrate to 1Gb and it is way cool (of course mine still cant beat ppl with 2-4GB ram)

Best is to backup important data first, incase you accidently format, best if u have 2 partitions, shift the important data to somewhere oterh than C drive.
SOmetimes system crashes due to hardware or software may cause the OS fail to boot. I am using XP so will give examples of how to boot into XP. If vista is similar to XP you can use the original XP disc and go into Repair mode as what forumers and mods wrote. follow onscreen instruction of search online first. In XP i can go into the Reapir mode screen and write a new boot sector for the OS to properly boot into system again.
From there then trouble shoot.
run Memtest to test RAM
Try updating graphics card or roll back graphics card drivers, or change another graphics card (if you ccan or have a spare)
did you update your game with junk plugins or push the audio or visual settings in game recently?
ANy patch or updates for your game?
Use your windows vista cd and boot it to get to the 'repair' your windows. If you don't have one, download it from here .
Burn the .iso file into a cd and boot it.
Once you get into the windows vista setup page, don't click 'install now', click 'repair your computer'.
Once it's done, restart your computer. If it doesn't solve your problem, repeat the whole process but at the end, don't restart your computer. Click on command prompt to get to the recovery environment and type
Bootrec /FixBoot
And then restart
Hope this helps
Okay. My doesnt come with a disc. Or should i say most PC now doesnt comes with a disc as there is recovery manager inside the computer already?
Anyway, i brought to fix it. And found that my graphic card has burnt out. Now, i need to buy a new graphic card.
Hmm..i've never use ATI before and i've been wanting to try it. But i dont want too powerful card. Just a decent one will do. Like.. Non-lag for most games? Not those WOW graphics la. If want also can la. haha(:
Then i've been thinking ATI radeon HD4770 or Nvidia 9600 GT. Which?

HD4770. Spanks the 9600GT and its bigger brother, the 9800GT. And, depending on the game, might equal out with the 9800GTX+
