How do I build a gaming rig with only 500W PSU, Seasonic with 80Plus Bronze one.
PS: Please dont suggest me to change the PSU as I bought in October 2009. (This thread was asked as a preventive measure should my Pentium 4 mobo dies soon and a whole new PC needed)
Due to 500W, I fully understand that it cannot run like 2 or more latest GPUs even though I remembered there was a mention of SLI or sort, cant remember.
Advice please, thank u very much.

You can run Dual-GPU's, provided they aren't those high-powered cards. HD4850 and below is fine.
Budget?

Prefably less than 1000. Excluding Monitor, PSU and OS. (Do state the maximum possible for 500W PSU as well, thank you very much). I will need a minimum of DVD dual layer writer and 1TB HDD (Since everything is new).
By the way, if there is no PSU constraint, just only budget wise, should one get 1 high end GPU card or Dual Mid range cards?

1 High End. Dual mid range cards will consume more power, and require a more expensive mobo. Also, problems with things like micro-stuttering.
Lets see, you will want an uber powerful graphics card (I assume, anyway)
MSI 785G-E53 with AMD Athlon II X4 620 - $306
MSI HD5850 1GB GDDR5 - $425
TEAM ELITE DDR3 1333MHZ - $148
SAMSUNG S223 - $34
COOLERMASTER ELITE 310 - $69
WESTERN DIGITAL 1TB CAVIAR GREEN - $128
$1110.
If you want, downgrade the card to a HD5770. That only costs about $280. All prices are from PC Themes pricelist cause it happened to be open while typing this. I would recommend Bell Systems, Best Price and Video Pro for your parts.

ya i 2nd what raraken said... get 1 good card instead of doing SLI or crossfire, saves energy

I see, thank u very much :D
Now I know SLIing / Crossfireing generally waste more energy and possible to run dual mid range (Not as power hungry) GPU in lower power rating but overall 1 good high end card will be better at cases.

budget of 1k wont get you a high end card, probably a mid range one
unless your budget for the card itself is 1k... hehehe HD5970

+1, given that my PSU is 500W and dont intend to change it asap (but alap -- as long as possible) , a 1k 2k GPU does not make sense to me either.
if you dont mind a mid range card, get gtx260 or 5850 or 5770 vapor x
all very popular amongst hwz ppl

I see, then 5850 makes more sense to me as the number is better than 5770 and as far as i remembered the reason for gtx 260 is their something not that much as their 280 counterparts.

ya can also but 5850 costs 400 plus so be prepared to burst ur budget
get 5770, then overclock it.
v.good card. im using it.
