Help needed for my external Hard Disk

  My hard disk is working perfectly when I last use it. Then when I plug it it in. I cannot access the file on my external hard disk. Arccording to device manager,

  Sorry guys. Press wrong. Anyway, to continue, my device manage states 2 Base System Device.

  The hard disk drive is called: Maxtor Basic Portable 205GB.

  Have you tried plugging it in on another computer? How old is your portable HDD? And when was the last time it was working?

  TS, you may go to your computer management -> storage -> diskmanagement

  if you do not know how to go to the computer management. do a right click on my computer -> manage.

  check to see if the drive and the partition information is available. there is a posibility that the partition information is lost. to recover the lost partition is a complicated matter.

  It could be that the circuitboard of the harddisk's casing is faulty

  Or the usb cable is faulty

  If only the casing's circuit board is dead, you can take out the harddisk and plug it manually into the computer to see the data that you have in the harddisk

  What kind of wire does it use? Does it have a usb cable at the end cause I using laptop.

  If you look carefully at the image you provided "http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz31/zeronos_rider/Untitled.png"

  You will see under disk drives, "Maxtor Basics Portable Device"

  Go to MY COMPUTER and (since you say you cannot access the file, I assume it is there) right click on the drive and choose PROPERTIES

  Go to tools and choose "CHECK NOW"

  Do not make any selection and click on "start"

   If it is a simple problem this should fix it.

  My computer does not show the hard disk even the device manager detect it.
