Hi Everyone.
I'm new to custom-made gaming desktop and I really need help. I know the best place to go and get good prices is at Sim Lim Square, but I'm really stupid at computer stuffs. I need help on what are the important things to buy and what does it do (I need to know the stuffs I buy ofcourse). The budget for the desktop is $1000-1500.
Thank you very much, I appreciate all your kind help.
PS; A little question, what are routers for?
Wait for Raraken to comment, But first thing first. What do you want it for? Intense Gaming or casual Gaming? Routers are like those modem type with wireless.

Walao, why wait for me ler XD
Yep, we need to know what games you play, so we can build a computer without going overkill.
So, question 1: Crysis, or Minesweeper?
2: With operating system or no operating system?
3: With monitor or no monitor?
Routers are used to, as their name implies, "route" the information to your ISP. Think of them like the traffic police, directing "cars" to their destination. Also, most, if not all, allow wireless access.
It's for intense gaming.
With OS.
With Monitor.
Thanks! :D
o.O
didn't know a comp without OS is still able to work. always taught an OS was essential for a comp to run lol.

I meant, maybe he have Windows Vista or something lying around, then no need OS.
Lets say,
$300 for 7 Home Premium
$300 for a decent 24" monitor.
Leaves about $900 for everything else. So i7 is out of the question. (Yeah, you know where I'm going)
AMD TIME!!!1111!!!eleventy-one!!111!
Phenom II X3 720 BE
MSI 785G-E53
2x2GB Team Xtreem LV 1600MHz
Above 3 would be about $500
Cooler Master Elite 332 (Or something, many casings cost about the same) $69
$100 for a 500GB HDD (Unsure of exact cost)
$30 for a DVD drive
$200 for the HD5750
Done!
RAWR!~~~ AMD AGAIN!

I would go Intel, but i5 already quite ex lor. 2k budget, can go i5 or even i7, but right now, left less than 1k. i5 CPU + mobo already more than 1/2k.
LOLS!

you still need to take the power supply unit (PSU) into consideration...(MUST BUY)
how many watts depends on your graphics card and other parts...
no power supply and you can stare into the darkness of your screen
cooling fans are for overclocking or if your graphics card is those heavy duty type (5750 im not sure if there is a need)
sound card dun need unless u are very particular about the quality of sound..since the mobo got onboard sound
whats your budget?

If you want to shave off $50, get yourself a HD4850 instead of the 5750. About the same performance for both of them, except that the 5750 has DX11 support and uses the 40nm process (smaller = more efficient)
Get yourself a nice power supply, for that set-up, a 400W from a reputable brand will be good. Want to be cheapo or not enough cash? The Vantec ION 2+ is a good budget PSU, about $80 for the 500W PSU. That said, if you have extra moolah, spend it on power supplies from Antec, Cooler Master, OCZ, Corsair etc. Won't go wrong.
Cooling fans? I highly recommend it. The stock fan is EXTREMELY LOUD. If you bought to HD4850 and saved that $50, get the Cooler Master Hyper 212+. Good budget heatsink plus fan combo. Also, aftermarket cooling solutions keep the CPU cooler, and that usually results in a longer lifespan.
Sound card? The E53 has a very good 'high-end' built in sound (ALC889A), cannot beat Creative X-fi lah, but X-fi is $100++.

eh raraken windows 7 home premium NOT SO EXPENSIVE LA...
it retails at around 162 at sls...
the extra 300-162= 138 can get a fan or maybe more ram/ better graphics card/ intel processor (sorry raraken)...INTEL FTW! GET i5 IF UR BUDGET PERMITS

i guess sticking wif the 5750 is better yeah?
is the PSU a good investment? or the budget VANTEC INO2+ is enough? or COOLER MASTER REAL POWER PRO 460W - $109 is more recommended?
eh.. i nv see any after market cooling solution in the price list lei... wat tat? hahaha...so a sound card can be saved yeah.. hahaha..
really thx for all advice given.. gonna try building my first DIY cpu base on the advice here.. hehe...

hmm i think cooler master would be a better choice since they are more reputable..
get REAL power and not the EXTREME power type
extreme is cheaper but lets say it is 500w extreme, 500w is the peak unlike REAL power which guarantees constant 500w power
stick to 5750 is up to you actually... u want play dx 11 games then buy lor
what do u mean by "market cooling solution"?

Chill bro, I said lets say. I use OEM copies which are cheaper.
With that cash, Get a better graphics card, since that is what primarily defines gaming performance. The 720 is more than adequate for just about anything you throw at it (Except the HD5970. Even i7 @ 4GHz got trouble keeping up). And most games don't use more than 3 cores to boot.
Intel is fine. I've been using Intel almost all my life, from a Celeron 400 MHz to a Celeron D 2.4GHz to a Q6600 2.4GHz. Now only I switched to AMD. Intel too ex liao :(
Anyway, with that $138 or so, plus that $200 you originally intended for the 5750, top up that $338 with about $60 and get yourself a HD5850. Then get a CM Real Power 500W to top it off. Or a Corsair HX520. Modularity (Love creating new words) FTW.
$468 should have CPU bo. The only mobo that should be that expensive is X58 like Rampage II Extreme. If don't have, might as well go 1366 :P
And aftermarket CPU coolers are always better. I'm getting a Xigmatek Red Scorpion or any of the HDT coolers to cool my OCed Phenom II. The stock cooler for AMD is f**king loud.. And annoying. Loud, but powerful. 7000RPM is bloody fast. If got 120MM at that speed, can have helicopter computer already :P Close to 55C at load, good for a stock cooler when the CPU is OCed.
ASUS P7P55M? Decent board, but there are better ones.
remember to post what you bought! :)

468 not enough for rampage extreme... its about 600 plus
Lols Raraken switch to AMD :(
