Hi , Im about to upgrade my computer's 512mb ram to lky maybe 3gb . So i wana know if changing the Ram will affect the computer in anyway other then increase its performance.
and btw , how much does 1gb Ram from kingston cost?
what is the maximum amount of memory can 1 stick of ram have?
Hope you guys can help =]
Thanks
Btw , i saw the names of RAM with lky DDR2 PC-800 or smth lky that , can anyone tell me what does it mean?
Firstly, Your PC uses DDR2 right?
Secondly, What type? Theres 800, 533, 667 and ect... I think its the frequency or something i forget. After knowing this. You can start buying. If DDR2 Kingston the price @ SLS bellsystem is around $40 for 1GB and $70 for 2GB.
Changing RAM will just increase performance. You want a side effect, don't go looking for one :P
1GB stick will cost about $30 for DDR2 RAM, DDR1 RAM is much more expensive, more than twice the price.
DDR1, DDR2 etc. refer to the "generation" of the RAM. They are not backwards compatible, meaning DDR2 not compatible with DDR1, DDR3 not compatible with DDR2 and vice versa because of the different technologies in each RAM.
Before buying RAM, make sure you know which type of RAM your computer uses. It's not uncommon for me to hear that ppl buy wrong type, wrong form factor etc.
Speaking of form factor, there are 2 major form factors: DIMM and SO-DIMM. DIMM, or Dual Inline Memory Module, is used for desktops, while SO-DIMM, or Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module, is mainly used for laptops. SO-DIMMS are much smaller than standard desktop RAM.
The maximum on one stick would be 8GB, though those are prohibitively expensive. Think thousands of dollars. Maximum for affordable memory is 2GB sticks.
DDR2-800: DDR2 technology, 800MHz RAM. Also known as PC2-6400.
If you see things like PC2-5300, PC3200, PC3-10666, divide the number after it by 8 and you get the clockspeed (6400/8=800,4200/8=533,10666/8=1333)
As always, you wanna buy RAM, compare the prices. I'm buying my new RAM today, 2x2GB OCZ Kit for about $90.
You going sls?

If you wanna buy DDR2, wait a while. Now DDR2 is very expensive, because manufacturers want to push out DDR3. Which is why I'm gonna upgrade to Phenom II/DDR3 system :P
Thank you all but how do i check what DDR my Ram is ?
one last question xD which one is better ?
NVIDIA GEFORCE 9500GT 1GB DDR2
ATI RADEON X1550 512 MB
To check,
Download CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and check the Memory Tab. It should list out the specifications of your RAM, as well as the type.
Regarding your QN on graphics card, the 9500GT is the better option, though I would recommend the HD4670 from ATi instead.
Raraken, So which shop in sg got sell the HD4670 ? cyberactive in bukit batok does'nt sell
PC ZONE or just go SLS. Raraken if you going SLS please please please help me find a good casing budget is $200

Go SLS, and look for Bell Systems, Best Price, Bizgram etc. Good name shops, usually on 5th floor.
