can any it expert or anyone tell/show me how to track one's IP address
just curious to know how people did it
thanks.
Don't think bros here will tell. Sorry,
Then he will ask, "Why cannot tell?" :P
Its not we don't wanna tell, more of your own safety. It is extremely complicated, and someone will usually go through countless servers before arriving at their intended destination. Besides, Gahmen find out, you can say bye bye to your daily life or your bank account.
Yup yup!

Basically, whenever a computer connects another (be it a web server, a game server, or another peer in P2P networks), the originating IP address can be logged and be used for various purposes. But that's as far as you can go - there's almost no way to find out who's behind an IP address. The fact that residential users are assigned dynamic IP addresses which change from time to time (specifically, it changes when the user re-connects to his/her internet service provider) just makes it even tougher to identify an user.
If you have a genuine need for the identity of the person using a particular IP address, it's best that you contact the internet service providers (Singnet, Starhub etc.) directly for assistance.
thanks for all your kind reply - bro

If you're not the troll who started that thread, you don't have much to worry, isn't it?
Let's just say that if the police wants to track that troll down, it would only take them:
- 1 request letter to Stomp's server administrator for the IP address and time of connection, and
- 1 request letter to the corresponding ISP for the identity of the service subscriber with the logged IP address at the given time
And no, a firewall doesn't hide your IP address. Neither is there a software that hides your IP address. You can try connecting through a proxy (web, SOCKS5, VPN etc.) though, but that will mean that:
1. the proxy owner gets to see whatever data you send/receive, and
2. if you did something funny and the gahmen wants to have a cup of tea with you, all it takes for them is to send a letter to the owner. In short, you're putting your life at the hands of the proxy owner.
Also, there are people who tried to do stupid things on the web from LAN shops, thinking that they'll never get caught. But as expected, they're stupid enough to visit the same LAN shop repeatedly and get caught anyway. Moral of the story: if you're thinking of doing stupid things, chances are you're stupid enough to get caught eventually, no matter what.
Do you have a blog?
Does your blog have a tagbox?
Just login to your tagbox admin account, and you can see all the Dynamic IP Addresses
