My PC is connected using a lan wire to the main port in my living room. I intend to shift my PC to my room so that I can work in my room but I dont intend to get a wire extension so I'm going for wireless. However, may I know how bad the speed will get affected? I'm running an internet connection of 3mbps. I play MMORPG occasionally and download torrents as well. Will it be recommended for me to go wireless in such a case?
Hmm.. No replies?
wireless signals might get cut off intermittently, so conventionally, wired is better. but what is the distance from your modem to the location of your PC in your room? coz the length of the wire affects the speed of transmission.. The quality of the cable also plays a part.
I will say wired one is definetely more reliable than wireless, sometimes wireless just get cut off for no reason.
Read about types of lan cables here: http://www.donutey.com/ethernet.php
I am using a usb wireless adaptor on my comp, as my router is in the living room and my comp is in my room. I will say that there is not much difference in performance. My wireless adaptor can support speed up to 54mbps, if you a 100mbps starhub cable plan, maybe the wireless adaptor will bottleneck your speed(if u can really get 100mbps everytime u use)
I also use my wireless for torrent, im not a heavy torrenter, but if there are seeds, there should be not a problem to get up to speed
Any usb wireless adaptor to recommend? I plan to get one to stream movies to watch. (not those AHEM ones of course xD)
Uhm wireless is actually not too bad, i have the singtel 3gb plan and my avg download speed is 350kb/s. Try using linksys wireless G usb adapter WUSB54GC.
lan.

Used to have a Prolink USB wireless adaptor.... but I had to keep repairing the connection every time I booted up my PC just to latch onto my home wireless network.
So I bought Linksys..... the small, blue, rectangular-shaped one. I've had no problems with it at all. It instantly finds and latches onto my home wireless network every time I boot up.
There is an upgrading of internet cables by the OpenNet. It changes ALL your current internet cables to fibre optic cables. Thus increasing the speed of your internet. The upgrading will be FREE to ALL singaporeans as government has subsidised it UNLESS you REJECT the offer.
Check when is your FREE upgrade via www.OpenNet.com.sg by entering your postal code.
So, when they come to your house, just tell them to pull the wires to your desired place of work 15m from your door.
edit : Wired is faster and stable than wireless by the way.
Just wait for OpenNet 1GB/S Lols.
