Hi , this PC was build by me and my father 4yrs+ ago so now the pc tend to lag when i play games that came out recently , hope you guys can advice me on what hardware to upgrade.
Thanks in advance =]
OS- Windows XP Sp2
Processor-Intel Celeron 2.40 GHz
BIOS-Phoenix Technologies LTD 6.00 PG
GPU-Ati Radeon x1550
512Mb of RAM
80Gb hdd(currently only 49gb available)
Basically, Processor,Gpu,Ram needs to be upgraded.
Like what pwned32 said, you need to upgrade the core components of your system, because games nowadays are quite demanding.
Maybe a GPU upgrade will help a bit, but not really worth it as you wont get a lot of performance gain
Getting a new system will be a better option in my opinion. Get more advice before deciding on whether to buy a new system or not.
So if I wana play games like Modern Warfare 2 will the following specs be good?
-OS - Windows 7
-Processor - A dual core processor 2.6 GHz
-Memory - 3.0 GB RAM
-GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 280 GTX or a Radeon HD 4870 X2
XB-B0yX
Your specs is good to go.

Get a Quad-core instead, cause a (modern) dual-core below 3GHZ will most likely bottleneck those cards. Stay away from anything Pentium-branded, since those tend to make cards like the GTX260 Core 216 or HD4890 behave like a GTS250/HD4850.
So if i have a,
Core i7 920 @ 2.7 ghz
2 x Gts 250 @ 1gb (SLI MODE)
8GB of DDR3
Windows 7
1 TB HDD
Would mine bottleneck?
HIJACK!!!
i just need to pop this quick question.
is there any store in sim lim which will let me buy a cpu, bring it back to see whether it works, and if it doesn't, get a refund?
i need to see if a c2d e8400 will work on my motherboard (asus p5lp-le).
it's a mobo built for HP and the HP documentation states it supports pentium D and pentium 4 only, no core2 mentioned.

What's the chipset on that mobo?
Wait, If your mobo is the Leonite-GL8E, with 945G chipset, should be what. Anyway,

According to this, yes, it supports Core 2 processors, but only up to 65nm. 45nm Core 2 CPUs are NOT supported, since the 945G cannot support 1333MHz FSB natively.
How about mine?

I wouldn't know why you would have 8GB DDR3 in triple channel, but heck, your GPU's will bottleneck. The 920 is more than powerful enough for 2 mid-range cards.
So it sucks right?

nvm i'm getting i7 system.
and nope, it's a lithium. only supports e7600 kind. ><

airflow is never a problem.
intake is provided by a really powerful 60x15mm NMB fan
side intake is from a 120mm AVC fan, which is equally powerful and noisy
exhaust is a delta afc0912de..
and the cpu cooler is more than capable. it's an AVC Z9H741K.
For a slight improve in performance, you can increase the ram to 2gb. Today, you can easily get a relatively good pc for under $600.
how about TS' monitor? if his graphics cards are high end, a not-so-high end monitor won't do the graphics justice.
I bet he has already a good monitor.
