dunno why, but the current scanner i've always seem to scan white paper and output it as gray paper.
for example, i've a piece of A4 paper (the standard type you use for printing documents).
when i scan it and output it as either PDF or JPEG format, the scanned copy looks grayish instead of white.
i've tried adjusting all kind of settings but no use. Is this due to scanner capability? because i want to be able to scan white as white, not white as gray.
u guys got same problem? i'm thinking of going Sitex this end Nov 09 to buy new scanner but not sure if the new scanners will have this same problem.
pls advise!
Paper will never appear pure white unless you scan in black and white only (not grayscale).

thanks! is it because modern scanners are not advanced enough to detect the white color of the paper? also, how have scanners improved over the years? my current one is a Canon Lide25 bought some years back, but how sure whether the latest scanners can produce better output (assume DPI is the same).
thanks.
On the contrary, "white" paper is not truly white.
most likely its the scanner problem. btw there is no need to buy new scanner if you know how to edit the photo or pics using photo editiing software to adjust the photo to your needs. The rest is up to u.
go understand how the scanner works and u will know what the matter with ur printer.
I think it should be a scanner problem and not "white paper is not entirely white problem".
My epson 3-in-1 automatically scans only the images or text and cuts off the white part of the paper even though it is quite dull. So it might be due to your scanner being quite old.
You can always play around with the settings or call the service centre for settings instructions.
If ur scanner really cmi thn jst buy new 1 la, anyway nowadays the 3-in-1s so cheap for their quality. I bought mine from a shop in Sim Lim Square a few years back but i like it that they provide free transportation for ink cartridges right to your doorstep even if it is for a single $10+ cartridge. NOT advertising! just trying to be helpful (:
thanks guys! yeah, i know i can use photoshop to edit it via Brightness / Contrast but it's just not natural looking sometimes, especially if the pictures have lots of grays / mid-tones.
