Hi guys. I'm currently using the MIO broadband, the one totally in white.
Problem is internet keeps going off for MY laptop and not the others.
I figure is my laptop's problem but i've try solving it with everything i know.. turning off firewall, antivirus.. etc.
But it doesn't help..
The laptop model i'm using is ACER ASPIRE 4937G
Can anyone tell me what's going on.. It keeps going off for me, but when i check the other laptops my brothers are using.. Their connection are fine..
Using wireless connections?
XP or Vista?
Did you attempt to restart the laptop? Sometimes, all I need to do is restart the laptop and it's fine. Or I shut down the laptop, remove the battery and hold the power button down for about 10 seconds, then power it back on. I'm using the 4937G as well, wireless connection, using MIO 10MBps connection. A SingNet tech assistant told me to change the wireless channel from the default to around 10 or 11.
Opps sorry. I'm using vista..
To Raraken: Yeah i called them several times, they told me to change, but it was to no avail. Restarting doesn't help. The problem resurface..
I am using wireless btw..
When internet connection goes off, for the Internet icon next to the clock, did it change to a red X or is the globe missing?
How about the connection provider you're connected to? And also, did any message pop-up anywhere in your screen?
For example, in the case of wireless@sg, there's a certain amount of time limit set in their configuration at their main routers servicing the targetted region.
No.. the globe is still there.
I usually solve it by relogging the internet..
It works fine after that but sometimes the internet icon doesn't have the globe. And made me relog many times till the globe returns.. sometimes even the globe returns.. i still can't log on to the internet..
Sorry Alp, i don't get you.
What you mean by connection provider i'm connected to?
The MIO box is set up together with another desktop at another room..
I mean is your router configured to allow you to access other service providers like wireless@sg, besides the one you subscribed to?
Don't understand what you mean by "relogging the internet" ?
Sorry.. relogging the internet means i right click on the internet icon and disconnect it, and connect it back..
To Alp: I think so.. i've connected to other networks before.. Like i was in macdonald's last time and i tried connecting it to wireless@sg and tried to load IE, but it was too lag and i got pissed off and turned off the laptop..
I used to have a similar problem which was solved by upgrading the drivers and changing some settings as adviced by the support center i called.

If this is the case, what you should do first is to re-configure your router/modem to set the network service provider you subscribed to, as the first main priority to connect to.
Then, you can try dkcx method to update whatever oldie drivers you're currently using...
I called singtel like 4 times.. All they do is ask me change the channel or smth..
Doesn't work..
I know it isn't the internet's problem, it's my laptop's problem.
Can't seem to find the 'root' afterall..
Sorry i'm a computer nerd..
Mind guiding me how to? Sorry for the hassle..

Its normally the labtop problem. Mine was.
Try going to update ur wireless driver and check any of ur power settings cos some of them might auto shutdown the wireless when its inactive etc.

I wonder if Event Viewer will have any errors...
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools and double click on Event Viewer. On the left, select Windows Logs, then select System. Look out for any connections issues events.
If there's any errors or warnings, post back the warnings/errors.

I'll post it out..
Event 4428,Tcpip
TCP/IP has chosen to restrict the scale factor due to a network condition. This could be related to a problem in a network device and will cause degraded throughput.

Press Print Scr/Prt Scr on the keyboard.
Open MS Paint and press Ctrl + V to paste it. Save and upload this screenshot somewhere and post back the link to the image...
As I'm not a MIO user, I can't offer much technical help in that area.
However, when you signed up for the package, does the mio package comes with some software cd or some other help documents...for example, in singtel dedicated broadband, they do provide the pre-configured cd to get everything ready for the user to get started.
If they do, you could access the contents of the cd, go through the step-by-step guide offered by the startup application...

If all other laptops etc are working, it should not be a problem of his service provider but more his own laptop thats causing the problem.
I suspect that there is some issue with the build in wireless network adapter. Lets assume that the build in one is spoil. u can try to borrow a USB stick type of wireless adapter. Install that to your notebook to see if the problem persist. If the same problem persist it may be due to OS problem. by then u might need to reinstall the OS. hope this help.
