There are some news that says
it is possible to do a clean install on a new hard disk/empty partition (which
means no previous Windows installed) using Windows 7 upgrade disc.
Two of the methods I heard are:
The more troublesome way: Do a double installation. Install Windows 7
first using the upgrade disc but without keying in the CD-Key and do a
second installation again but with CD-Key and activate it this time
round.
The easier way: Edit some registry keys through registry editor. More info: http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/cle...rade_media.asp
There are quite many people saying it works with the above methods.
This means a lot of money could be save if you were to get the upgrade
version instead of the full retail version and you could save even more
with the Windows 7 home premium upgrade 3 licenses family pack by
shipping from US.
So have anyone tried it yet? One thing I'm not sure is that by doing this, will it be considered an OEM or a retail?
Let's hope someone can provide an answer on this
Personally, I already ordered Windows 7 Full Home Premium (UK version)
from amazon UK which is about half price cheaper than Singapore and one more good thing is it
comes without IE 8. To be shipped through VPost though. If upgrade version
works, I'm gonna ship out the family pack from US for another 3 of my
computers.
It's possible. However I ' m not too sure how to come about doing it.
It should be considered retail, AFAIK, considering it came in a nicely designed package, rather than a brown cardboard box which OEM copies always come in.
I tried with a Vista Upgrade, double install worked fine. I'm not too sure about 7 though, but since 7 is just Vista 2.0, it should work too. You can buy the 7 upgrade, and if it doesn't work as a clean install, you could download (NOT RECOMMENDED) Vista, install Vista but not activate it, and then install 7 over it.
personally i do not like to do double install. it is really a waste of time. pls suggest faster way of doing things.
Like Vista, Windows 7 may be patched to stop such issues from occurring. Don't bet on it working. Your Windows 7 may not work one day if MS patches it.
But if MS closes one eye, different case.
i paid 177 for the oem version. haiz...so ex. i used the activator then my desktop crashed. made me have to buy the real 1
