If it's the battery, you will still be able to boot windows, but then your time and date will be reset.
Battery only cost afew dollars.
oo thanks ... does it have diff kind of model like the ram lol
because its an acer.
omg. a screen, a non moving object, and you can't even take a nice, clear picture of it.
Either battery or virus infection
Bios is Basic Input and Output System, and the system will check that the bios setting and the cmos memory/values are the same during startup.
Once the system power down, ram and other temp storage device will lose power(and thus memory), so the battery is there so that there is some 'charge' or electric to store certain info/setting and maybe the date and time, in the cmos
Thus if you have no batt, then the comp check and notice that the values of the bios and cmos doesnt tally, and they will warn you, that might be how the error came about
The battery that is on the motherboard is actaully those watch batteries. Or the flat round ones that looks like a pancake in your calculator
i think it is not very expensive
Unless of course your computer is those super duber old types that requires desoldering, draining out the signal, then solder the connection back in
my com is 3 years old already how?
and can ask 7484P to stop it.....
most cmos batteries would look like this:
One way to check if your battery is to log into your user, and check out the time and date and restart your computer.
What pillow meant was, If the time values are out (for example: the date that you set is 8.35PM, 23rd Oct 2009) but after you shut down and start up, it will revert back to (for example: 1200am, 1jan2000) - I can safely say it's your battery that needs changing.
Yes There are different models of batteries, so the safe bet to ensure that it fits, would be to take out the one from the motherboard and bring it down to the shops.
Here's how it looks like. (if you have trouble locating it)
Edit: The cost of 1 battery will cost <$5.
Ok but what would happen if i remove it... com corrupted?

Battery is most common cause, messing around with the settings will also have the same effects if not done properly.
