Hi everyone, I'm new here, heard that this forum offered great help, so I decided to join and seek some much-needed advice . This would be my virgin attempt at assembling my own desktop. I would probably be heading down to Sim Lim Square to get it assembled, after I get a rough idea of the products I'd need.
I'm an about-average game user, so I don't need superbly top-of-the-line products and such. My main purpose for the desktop would be for it to run most games like COD, World of Warcraft, Sims3 smoothly without hiccup, and one that hopefully would be able to carry me into the next couple of years - service-wise.
I was wondering if anyone would be able to list down the products (with prices thx) I'd need to build my desired desktop.
Currently keen on the i5 and i7 processors so if you could somehow fit that into your recommended list, I'd appreciate that.
My budget: $1400-$1500
Thanks so much in advance guys!
I'm selling my gaming rig!
Able to play games such as
Dead Space, Perfect World, Left4Dead, STALKER, BF2, BioShock, FarCry2 etc
On High settings.
Letting go of it cheap if you want more details just PM me.
But I recommend not getting an i7 yet. Not worth the money. Stick to a Duo Core with a newer motherboard and chipset + graphics card. Usually it'll cost around a thousand dollars.
For a thousand bucks, get a decent quad-core (AMD Phenom II CPU's are good), a nice CPU cooler, high-performance RAM, a fat HDD and a 4850/4870.
Prices for i7, i5 are pretty high right now, and the performance benefits of the platform aren't there, since you say you are an average gamer.

I.T fair items are still overpriced.
You're just paying for the bundle of free gifts they're trying to get rid of.
Like, 19" LCD is about $200. 4GB DDR 1333mhz is about $120. 500GB HDD 7200RPM is about $65.
$200 + $120 + $65 = $385
$1588 - $385 = $1203 for the mobo, CPU and OS is kinda expensive :/
The graphics card depends on what series it is to determine its value. A 1GB gfx card is not necessarily better than a 512mb card.
But then again, the new i7 cores are expensive.

Not necessarily good. A Phenom II X4 is a lot cheaper, yet is only slightly less powerful. Like, 2-4 FPS diff?
TS, best gather up components by yourself, and watch Youtube How-To videos. A lot are pretty good and easy for newbies to understand.

I myself was considering the AMD Phenom 2 B.E, but I heard that the RMA for AMD is kinda slow?
Other than the branding I think AMD would be almost the same as Intel in terms of performance, but cheaper?
Correct me if I'm wrong..

I think it is a good buy, except that
the mobo is a micro atx, maybe not much expansion capability, bt if u are nt adding much it is fine
THe graphics card is a 4670 1gb, not very powerful if u are cranking up the resolution and effects up to the max, if gaming etc it is still very fast
guys, do U factor in the support/warranty when U buy PC?
If you are talking about custombuild, everypart itself has a warranty
HardDisk and mobo varies from 3-5 years
Ram is lifetime warranty, i tink it means until the product is no longer being manufactured or the distributor ran out of rma stocks
DVD drives should be 1-2 years
A Powersupply should cover 2-3years, depending on the brand, a recent powersupply from corsair covers 7 years. A normal standard power supply that comes with your casing might only be warrantied for 1/2 year
The processor should be 3 years, however the original fan must be presented while u sent in for warranty
those should be the major compnents

No la.. Not really scam. Because for that $1500 package, actually you're paying for everything.. But you should know how it works.
E.g The processor + mobo + fan and casing etc maybe costs 65% of what you paid. The rest of the 35% consists of the free monitor you got and most importantly..
The service.
I mean, personally I'd rather pay more and buy from a salesperson than to pay less and get bad service.
Overall, thats the market rate for a new i7 computer. Of course you might save 20% when you purchase outside by yourself but you'd have to custom pick the parts or fix it up yourself. Just think of it as you paid a small extra for having everything done and functioning on the spot! Also warranty included!
